Hi BillyD,

Great videos! I love your approach to the Byron F16 conversion. The XPS Dynamax/Big Screamer system is a very good setup but is not really optimized at 12S (although you stated 12C). When using a 12S setup, the E-Turbax system weighs only 33oz compared to your 52oz XPS system. This is a 1.25lbs of extra weight for a similar thrust.

I would recommend using a higher cell count to make the XPS system shine. If the added weight is too much for the Byron F-16, try using it in the larger Byron F-15. The XPS system will work best in a 17lb to 20lb model.

Good luck on your project!

If the XPS system is getting 15lbs on 12s, that F-16 should do just fine! That's more than an old slimer .91 would put out.

I second SoppyJoe, those things orginally flew on a Rossi 61 side exhaust motor back in the day. Lucky to put out 7 pounds installed. make sure the fuse below the vertical is stiff. The whole vertical would flutter causing the stabs to twist in their mounts which as you know will give you massive amounts of roll input that may or may not fatal!

Billy,
That F-16 conversion is AWESOME!!! I am a huge EDF fan and will be watching the rest of your build closely. I have a ICDF OS91 powered Enforcer that I just can't make myeslf finish because I don't want to do any more glow powered planes. I have converted my pattern planes to electric and am now thinking about doing the same to my ducted fan Enforcer. I am just west of you in South Euclid Ohio and would love to join you when you maiden that baby.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

The enforcer doesn't need all that power. Do the Byron electric fan conversion. Way cheaper.

It has already been done. One guy on RCG put the electric Byron fan on his enforcer and says it flies a lot better than the glow.

Skyhawknut,
That is great information to know. I will start looking into the Byron electric fan conversion. Do you have any idea where I might find that? I really do not want to do that plane as a conventional ICDF! I hate that I bought all of the expensive OS 91 Weston pipe stuff but I just have NO interest in a glow ducted fan.

AAbdu,
here is the link - it is a long thread as there has been a lot of development over the last couple of years. EJF has the latest more powerful ones available on their website. A 10S setup should be more than enough power for you.

Pg's 14,19,20, and 24 are about the Enforcer.

Billy
Excellent videos. Funny stuff. I would like to share with you what I did with my Byron F-15 maiden flight a few years ago.

Do you know if they will actually have fan units and motors at the booth as well?

I can tell you now that no they won't It takes 2 weeks for the order to be completed and 5 days to ship from the factory to them. We won't have the motors till about 1 1/2 weeks after the show. Sorry for the inconvienience, but it was crucial we changed factories between orders. I have tested the new factory samples and appproved them. Now we just need to be patient while we await their arrival

WOW! What a trip! The f-16 is coming along amazingly! I can't wait to see this thing in the air! The paint job looks fantastic and the thunderbirds haven't always been my childhood favorite. Just wanted to cheer you along on the project and be sure to keep us all posted.

Looks like fun! I'm working on a Yellow Aircraft F-16C now that I'll be converting to EDF. It looks like the Byron may be a little larger.
