Default PST Panther EDf conversion

I'm in the process of converting two PST Panther to EDF. Looks like no cheaters will be required. After I cut the mounts to allow the XPS Dynamax Extreme fan to set down it line up with the inlet duct, which is 5" in dia. could not ask for a better fit. See [link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1203729&highlight=pst+panther]here[/link] for pictures. I'll start posting here also as progress is being made. Starting off with Dynamax Extreme fan, Hacker/Jeti Spin 200 ESC, 12 5000ma XPS Lipos and Graupner MX-16 radio system.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for reading my column and posting your PST Panther link. I have been looking at that model and envy your project.

I have heard from my modeling buddies that the PST Panther was a copy of the Ziroli Panther. If so, then I made a mistake in my column suggesting that cheater holes would be needed since I thought it was designed for turbine power at the time.

Do you think you will need to modify the intake duct size or add cheater holes? Also, what do to guesstimate that your flying weight will be?

I have been looking at the XPS Dynamax/Big Screamer DF unit since I have a Jeti SPIN200 ESC and plenty of LiPo packs but I haven't found the right host yet. Perhaps your PST Panther will be a good choice for me. Once I test my Aeronaut Panther at the end of May, the fever may spread to a PST Panther so I look forward to reading your results.

Regards.

Ok, I guess that confirms it was made for a Dynamax DF. I find it odd that the [link=http://www.pstjets.com/PST%20Web.files/Page315.htm]PST Panther page[/link] only refers to turbine power and "Dry Take-off Weight". You're not going very far without fuel.

The 24lbs dry weight seems high for a Ziroli Panther. My guess is that the fiberglass is not the high quality used by the Germans in my Aeronaut Panther.

Any idea on what your flying weight may be?

Bob,

Somewhere I read on RCG a few weeks back that one of the PST dealers had a special on the Panthers. Do you have any contact information on them?

Also, any idea when the XPS Dynamax/Big Screamer will be back in stock?

Thanks.

No not sure on XPS, I know they have motors on the way. Helijet had the Panthers on sale. Go to PST Turbine's website for his contact info. I did not order these, an friend did. I'm building two . One for him and one for me.

More work is done. Thinking about switching out the Xtreme Scream motor for a XPS Hacker version. This will save about 2 lbs off the RTF weight. Should be ready to fly when the temp. drop to below 100 degrees.

What amazes me in your video is the sound! I don't think I could distinguish the difference between this and a gas turbine. Hope she flies as good as she sounds! Encouraging to see big planes electric powered. Makes me want to get back into my project which I kinda shelved awhile back.

Had to redo the battery mount to get the CG where it needed to go. Also finished the pilot's interior. If all goes according to plan the 1st flight will be this Sunday.

Hi, Bob, ray here I recently acquired a Ziroli Panther, It was partially done, ,I am    currently covering the fusege and about to install the servos in he vertical fin just below the horizontal stab.... My question is which particular servos  would be most suitable or this application?  Elevator and Rudder.  I loved your videos  on your Panther....  any help would be appreciated   thanks  Ray

I used HS-645 servos but anything along those lines will work. Good Luck. It's a great fling jet.
