F-4 Phantom II Build, Savage Light Industries

1 Attachment(s)
Been working on this since early last summer. Specs are:
WS: 33-5/8"
Length: 50-1/2"
Weight 5.5-6 pounds
90mm EDF (I'm using the RC Lander aluminum one on 6S, with a CC ICE 100 ESC)
Eflite retracts, 25 size

My first EDF build. Been flying several high performance delta wing birds, glow and electric, so the transition shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

Nice laser cut kit with fiberglass nozzle and nose cone, clear molded canopy. Excellent quality contest grade balsa and lite ply with birch where needed.

A real builder's kit. savagelight.com

A little progress most every day. Weather here is only good enough for an occasional heli flight from the frozen lake, using 2 liter Coke bottles as floats.

This bird is to be trimmed to resemble the first F-4 that flew, F4H-1 142259a. The canopy is cut down so that the top is parallel to the top of the fuse; the tail hook has a shroud just aft of it; the air intakes are hooded and curved towards bottom rear; shortened radome with a removable pitot. White bottom, gray top, lots of dayglo panels for visibility.

I've decided to go with the Futaba 8J system, using five of their slim line S bus servos. The single wire harness for the S bus connections is already built up and installed inside the fuse. Something about only 3 connections at the receiver that I really like. (S bus, ESC, and retracts.)

Juan: The wheels are Williams Brothers "smooth contour". They can be had from 1-1/2"(25.34mm) to 4-1/2"(114mm) diameter. I like them because they are light, very slender and have hard rubber tires.
