Default GWS PicoStick

Hey fellas,
After a hiatus that last around a year, I'm starting to slowly get interested in RC planes again. I'm looking at the GWS Picostick. I need a bit of help with everything that I need to get (speed control, chrystal, etc..). Everything I had before was RTF, so I'm lost as far as this plane goes.

So far I have the following in my car:

JR XF421EX FM Transmitor/Micro pack

PicoStick

Could you guys please give me a list of what else I'll need to get off the ground? I'm not sure as far as battery(s), chrystal, etc. etc..

Your help is appreciated!

Several in our club have the Pico Stick. Very slow easy flyer for calm conditions.
Looks like all you'll need is a speed control, battery pack(s), and charger.
If you don't mind spending some money Castle Creations Pixie 20 speed control, 2 cell lipo pack around 700-900 mah, Great Planes Triton charger.
You could get cheaper components that work but not as good, like GWS speed control, 6 or 7 cell nimh pack.
There are some cheaper chargers too. GWS has one.
The Triton would serve you better in the future, it charges nicads, nimhs, and lipos.

Solder is about all I can think of.
Oh, and a connector for the esc and battery, and charger. IMHO Anderson PowerPoles (Sermos) connectors are best. Deans are also good. Tower sells both. The Pixie doesn't come with connectors.
You can solder the esc wires to the motor wires.
Be aware the Triton is a DC charger. You can't plug it into an AC outlet. You need a clean (regulated) power supply for AC use. Tower has these too but they are expensive. Some of us have made one out of an old computer power supply. I could send the site that tells how.
Depending how much you fly, the stock motor will burn out eventually. You could buy spares or there is a brushless replacement motor that just came out. I have one and love it. No more burned out motors. It's Feigao IPS replacement motor. Lots of places carry them now. I could give a a site for them if you want. If you go brushless you need a brushless controller though like the CC Phoenix 10.
This all sounds complicated but I want to try to make you aware of what's out there.

I've been flying a Pico Stick for a couple of months. I wasn't satisfied with the climb rate and its ability to handle a little wind. I replaced the stock motor with a GWS IPSD twin motor system B (7.0:1) gear ratio running a 12x6 slo-fly prop. Much better performance. I have a large front yard with a deck. I sit out ther and fly the thing a lot. Most of the time I fly at half throttle but the IPSD gives me the power to climb with some authority and the additional power helps when its a little windy.
Fly it with the stock (single) motor first, but if find yourself wishing you had a little more power get the twin motor system (around $22). It mounts the same as the stock motor, about a 30 second job to change out. I run 6 cell nimh. 0ne is 220mah the other is 650 mah. I get 15 min+ flights with the 650.
You may already know this, but if you use LiPo batteries make sure you use an ESC designed for LiPo. If you use a 'Standard' ESC the cut off voltage will be too low and you stand a good chance of damaging the batteries.

Have fun with it, I sure do.
Bob
