Default motor cutout?

Hopefully someone can help here. I just bought an Astro Flight Micro meter. I am pretty new to the electric side and was told this was all i needed though after a little research am thinking now that the super might have been a wiser investment. Anyway, when I put the watt meter into the signal flow my motor wont fully power up. It seems to cut out just before 8 amps. I am running a motor max 400t brushless, c.c. pheonix 25 esc, tanic 1550 mah 3 cell lipo in case that is relevent. I took the watt meter out and hooked it up normally and it works fine, put the watt meter back into the mix and the same thing again, motor cuts out at about 8 amps. Can anyone tell me why?
