Brushless motor question
I am looking for a brushless motor for my Lancair EP. What doe the three numbers mean. For example I need a motor that runs a gearbox. I was looking at the new Gret Planes Ammo but dont know what the numbers 20-30-5200KV mean when it comes to picking the correct size. Also I assume I need an inrunner to run the gearbox.
Any help would be good thanks.

RE: Brushless motor question
The 20 standards for the size. The KV is your RPM per volt. In other words the higher the kv the more speed or rpm. The lower the kv the more torque usually. Two motors you could look at that can handle the weight of the Lancair are the E-flite 400 4200 kv and the Himax 2025-4200kv. Both motors can be put into a gear box and they both can handle up to a 32oz airplane.

RE: Brushless motor question
Thanks Bevo
I am stuck between either using LIPOS instead of the supplied NiMH. That will reduce my weight and the speed 400 should perform better. I think that will be my first move. Then I might go with the e-flight 400.
