Default What does FET stand for?

Hi.

Simple question, what does FET stand for? I found out what BEC stands for, and know its function. But I'm unlcear as to how an "FET" or even "MOSFET" (more efficient) works? I know it's usually connected to an ESC's functions.

FETs are the main power-handling and switching components in an ESC. In a brushless ESC, each of the three phases has an FET -- or sometimes more than one, depending on the current rating of the ESC.
