Default Firebird Freedom Big Tail

I have seen the big black tail on eBay and was wondering if anyone has tried them.
They are supposed to be almost indestructible. [link=http://cgi.ebay.com/Hobbyzone-Freedom-Challenger-Commander-Swift-Tail-Wing_W0QQitemZ160121094612QQihZ006QQcategoryZ2563Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem]Freedom Tail Wing[/link]
Also would this tail be easy or hard for inexp flyer?

Thanks for reply
I like the looks of what you built, but I am just looking to replace a badly bent tail
and wondered if the black one was easy to fly or not cause it looks like a
money saver if you were going to crash-A-lot.

That thing is made out of corrugated plastic which is the same stuff you see on the side of the road during elections and for other advertisements. In our state it's illegal for those signs to be on the right of way. I've quite a collection of them and use them for many projects.

Just snatch one from the side of the road and make your own.

I wouldn't pay almost $30 for something you could probably make yourself for free.

I guess what I am really trying to find out is how does a big tail change the flying of the plane? Does it make the plane more forgiving
or less forgiving? What about turns, is it any different? Until recently I have not flown in more than 45 years and am trying to quickly
get to where I can let a seven year old boy fly with me. I have bought a number of planes off eBay, I figure there is no sense in letting a kid bust up new planes. I have Phantom, Challenger, Commander2 & Freedom.

It looks like you have some young pilots Scooper matter of fact I guess you are young yourself. Nice field you have there and nice planes.
I like that orange tiger looking plane, what is it?

Thanks for reply Sir Raleigh. I lived in Winston Salem 7 years until 1977. I am glad you told me that about the corrugated plastic signs.
A division of the company I work for makes those signs. I still might buy one for a template and make a few for my freedoms. I figure if
I bust a few wings due to trial and error designs on my part, it would have been cheaper to buy a the tail from him.

stanman242:::My old'ist turns 38 this year, she would agree I'm bit inmature, I've kept a kids rc club (THE MULLET MAURADERS) for 12years or more now and I've bought 20-30 pod an boomers for them though the years, WE HAVE A BALL!!! the size of the tail 's does make it a might easyer turn'in down wind an less tip-stall'in at low speeds, but I won't fly em in over 8-10 mph anyway as the puffs will get you white thumbs, Wait till the winds down an you'll find this sport less price'ie! your bub, scoooper

An unfortunate hand I was dealt, I turn 59 in june and the kid turns 7 in july. It seems like this is a hobby that the kid likes
and I don't find it bad myself. I took the Commander2 out yesterday for the first time and went thru 3 bats and only ended up
with a little nick on the wing. I think I will take the challenger and phantom out today and see what happens. I have
two commander2's, one phantom, two+ challengers, four+ freedoms, and one swift. I don't plan on going out and having the
kid bust up a plane and end up with a long face cause he can't fly anymore.
