Default Batterie Soldering

I have been working with some race packs a friend gave me. I wanted to take out a cell from each to reduce the volts. Each time I remove one, it ill no longer take a charge (since it will take one prior to the work). Now what I have done is removed the cell at the end (six cells in sequince, 1 parallel), the paralell one, and added either copper wire or a batt. bone. Neither works for me. I have years of soldering exp. So I know it is not my bonding. Any ideas out there?

hrm... it doesn't make alot of sense that there would be 6 cells in series and 1 in parallel with that setup. I think I might know what pack you are talking about, but is there any way you can post pics of what the pack looks like and what you have been doing to modify it with 1 less cell?
