Default need help picking a new plane

I want to buy a 4ch plane prefer laser cut wood and a big wingspan (around 50 inches). I wantit to be pretty easy to fly, but be able to do some aerobatics, and also not too expensive, but not really low quality. i need suggestions on what to buy.

Not sure what your flying experience is, if its nihl, then even a 3 channel might be suggested, Super Cub tho a RTF Ready To Fly is a strong plane takes loads of abuse and is very steady in the air, one of the top ones for a newcomer...

Also not sure whats expensive in your budget, as Super Cub is even $159 shipped, are some great trainers in the material you mentioning but may run abit depending what you have in your current gear if any at all...

My favored airleron trainer todate is the Parkzone Trojan, handles very predictable, excellent manuvers but flys well at low and medium speed, a winner for me...unfortunately its a foamie, tho rather tuff, flys beautifully, PNP or RTF versions..<>..

Are Slo-Sticks also make nice openers and sure others will add to the list...BEST ..<>..

sorry i forgot to say my experience. i have a little experienc with a 3ch j3 cub, and i recently purchased realfligh g3.5 and ive been flying the 4ch planes. I probably should get a foam, but there generally smaller and i think building a kit would be really fun. ide say my budget is 250-300 dollars. the sig kadet seniorita looks nice, but its 200 on tower and its a glow

You might want to look at the Multiplex Mentor. It's 4 channel, 64" wing span And very sturdy. It's a great stable flyer and will do all the aerobatic stuff too.

looks nice, but its above my price range. $380 dollars for the Acro Cub is pushing it, but the mentor kit is 85 dollars more plus it needs one more servo and a bigger motor.

traxxaspede,

One thing you need to remember is that the bigger plane (electric) you get, the more expensive the
motor and batteries are gonna be. My Electristar is 63in wingspan and weighs between 5 - 6 pounds.
It takes a minumum 3000 mah Ni-Hm 8.4v or a 3200 mah 20C lipo 7.4v ( times 2) there's no way a
3s 900mah lipo is gonna power something in your 50 inch palne you're looking for. Lipo's for my
plane cost around $75 a piece. Personally I come to the conclusion that I'll go electric for my park flyers
and my bigger planes will always be glow or gas. You get more air time out of the glow/gas when you
get into the bigger planes vs. electric, and the park flyer size fly very well and relatively cheap with the smaller
lipo's. And larger ESC's cost a bundle too.

Get a good glow . 40 size trainer and a good radio or go with the HZ Supercub, or park zone t-28 trojan
or the E-flight Apprentess(sp?) the later two are 4ch and come with better radios

Just my 2 cents

I'll ditto what Hemicuda said. The bigger planes are better with gas/nitro, if you just want the fun of building a kit , check out Hobbyzone.com (hangar 9, Seagull, and world models), Hobbico.com, and Towerhobbies.com. But it will be hard to finish and fly a kit for the budget you have, and you can buy an Rtf glow trainer such as the Avistar for under $400. From what you have said about your experience and your budget, I would also reccomend a T-28, or a Corsair from parkzone. Both will out perform many of the smaller glow models, are easy to repair, and the Corsair comes with a radio that you could use in larger planes at a later date. Just my two cents as well!!

Did you get your new plane and radio or are you still looking for suggestions?

Did you look at kits from Mountain Models? Excellent kits!
www.mountainmodels.com

I have a Smooth-E and it fits your description pretty nicely. Only 40 inch wing. but a fun plane and easy to build. Good first 4 channel plane.
http://www.mountainmodels.com/produc...roducts_id=224

The Tyro 150 is a 54" wing
http://www.mountainmodels.com/produc...roducts_id=479

How about something scale:

L-4 Grasshopper - 48" wing
http://www.mountainmodels.com/produc...roducts_id=591

Mountain Models can lay out all the components you need including motor, servos, battery, etc.

For a radio, I would highly recommend the Spektrum line. The DX6i is a great introductory computer radio on 2.4 GHz. No frequency control needed an lots of good features for the price.
