Default Futaba reciever compatibility

Good morning,
I have a Futaba 4vf that I would like to use in a GWS Tiger Moth. I am aware that I will need to get a micro reciever and servos. My question is id Futaba my only choice for the reciever? Does anyone make a compatible reciever that is better, lighter, cheaper or more efficient? I was also looking for opinions on servo choice. I am using HS-55 servos in my GWS Zero and like them alot. Does anyone have opinions on better servo choices?
Thank You and happy 4th!!!!
Rick

Rich, you can use most mfg's rx's with a Futaba tx, I do. I prefer Hitec rx's.

Just go with a dual conversion, as it's a better rx, and you have to have a negative shift to be compatible with Futaba.

As for servos, I've had great luck with the 9 gram versions from Hobby King. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=8995

For three bucks they are hard to beat vs what you paid for the HS-55's. These would be quite similar to your 55's.

Castle Creations / Berg makes some very nice full range FM micro receivers:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLBY9&P=7

Just be sure to buy the Berg crystal for your channel:

These receivers are auto-shift, so they will work with negative or positive shift transmitters.

Glacier Girl,
I went to the link that you forwarded to me to buy a handfull of those servos. When I went to check out the shipping was more ($24.00) than the servos, as they are being air mailed. Is there a US based site for them?
Thanks
Rick

With HobbyKing, you must always factor in the shipping from Hong Kong. You will still get very good prices, despite the shipping, if you amortize the shipping over a large number of items. I've found it best to order at least 1kg worth of items, and get the EMS express shipping for $25. The EMS express gets it here typically in a week.

For small orders, you're best off with the international registered air mail.

Since the shipping weight for those servos is only 17g each, you could order 58 of those servos and get them shipped via EMS Express for $25. That makes the per servo price only $3.42. The best price I've seen on HS-55s, not including shipping, is $8.99 each. If you only want 5 servos, and don't mind waiting a couple of weeks, you can get them shipped via international registered airmail for $4.79, which makes the per servo price only $3.95. (see the HobbyKing shipping chart below)

In general, even with shipping, I find I can get stuff from HobbyKing for about 50% of the price that US based stores sell it for.

Thanks PKH,
I got it figured out.  I had a couple of other items in my cart and it put it just over 1kg, hence the high shipping rate.  With your help I now have it figured out and placed my order.
Thanks Again
