Maiden Flight with Super Cub (Hobbyzone)
 

Well, I made my initial flight today. Take off was easily accomplished and this is the first flight with r/c aircraft. I practiced over and over taking off and then landing (after about 100 feet or so of straight low flight). The only problem was the landings...always nose down at the end after putting the throttle to zero. Should I land with 1/3 throttle? I thought the video showed the SC drifting in for a landing after cutting the throttle at 15 feet or less. It was windy and I was flying into the wind. I love it! I am hooked to r/c flying. I really consider my first few flights lucky, as I have read about horrible first flight stories. Any advice would be appreciated.

sounds like you are self taught, not always easy. I taught myself and have the multiple receipts to prove it :). Keep it high, land it slow and if you ever crash and burn, just realize everyone else has too!

DR:
Try leaving about 1/4 throttle on. When it gets to about 6 in, off the ground pull the elevator back about 1/4 stick to flair it. I say 'about' because every plane is a bit different. If it doesn't want to come down then try 1/8 throttle. Play with it a bit in this respect. Once you find these settings they will pretty well keep these characteristics. Your next plane may have completely different characteristics. They're like people they all have their own personalities:) That's why I never get bored with them.

Flying with wind is always tricky. Try landing when its calm and see if you still have the same problem. If so, we'll try to help you out some more.

I personally had to shave the spoke hub (center of wheel that protrudes 1/16th of an inch past the spokes) with an xacto knife in order to get the wheel nuts back on.

One of my nuts was shipped broke so I used some kind of collar that fit around the protruding landing gear wire and was held in place by an alan wrench screw.

hey, also maiden my super cub today. Everything went better than I expected considering I've never flown anything before. One problem I had that made it extra exciting was my throttle toggle broke in mid flight. Must have been quite a sight as I srambled in the dirt to find it than try to jam it back in the tx. and try to land all at the same time. Anyway is this covered under some kind of warranty [bought the plane on ebay unfortuneatley no LHS anywhere near me]. If not guess I'll open up the tx and try to jury rig something.

Not uncommon, unfortunately - covered by warranty - go easy on the slider.

How will that stop the plane nosing in? he is describing a nose in not a ground nose over, I think maybe he is not flairing the plane before touch down or he could be flairing too much and getting a stall just before landing.
