CA Glue HZ SuperCub?

Greetings folks,

I just purchased a HZ Supercub last week and am still waiting for some decent weather to maiden it. In the meantime I had a few questions about the recommended glue for repairing this thing. (Ya I am anticipating a few crashes. :))

The plane is made of EPP foam, right? Is it correct that regular CA works well on this without harming the foam? Better than foam-safe CA?

Another question has to do with securing the 2 servos better inside the fuse. I noticed that they were quite loose. They seem to use some sort of latex type caulk to glue thse in from the factory which does not seem to adhere at all. Has anyone made some small plastic bracket hold-downs or something to keep these secured?

Last question is about re-enforcing the main wing with fiberglass tape and/or carbon fiber tape. Anyone done that? Would placing a strip of fiberglass re-enforced celo tape on the leading edges or carbon tape affect wing aerodynamics?

thanks

RE: CA Glue HZ SuperCub?

Glue - Read the manual, it is very clear on this point. No, the plane is not made of EPP it is made of ZFoam, which is quite different. Zfoam is more similar to Elapor, which Multiplex uses on their planes. Yes, you use CA on this foam.

As far as reinforcement of the wing, be sure to put the wing struts on. They are not just there for looks.

If you like you can run a stip of fiberglass tape down the center of the wing from root to the struts to help the wing handle the stress of aerobatics, but other than that, I don't think you need much else. Remember when you reinforce an area, that means that things break somewhere else. If you snap off a wing tip it is very easy to reattach it. If you over strengthen the wing, then you will simply break the plane somewhere else, somewhere that may not be as easy to fix.

Use CA glue that is made for foam and use the Kicker to activate it. Or, use 5 minute epoxy. Clear packing tape is all you need for repairs/reinforcement.
