In the market for a balancer...
 

And I would like some suggestions. Currently I will only be working with 3S Li-po's, but that may go up to 4S or down to 2S.

The GP Equinox looks decent, but I am unsure about it.

I have heard that FMA direct makes a nice one, but I haven't been able to find it.

I am sure there are other balances out there, but I am not having much luck finding them.

I own a Triton charger, so if it can balance during a battery charge, that would be great. If not, I can deal with balancing the packs before/after a charge.

I dunno that FMA makes a seperate balancer, but I guess they might. The two main solutions that people go with for balancers are the equniox (or the hyperion which is basically the same thing), and the blinky. With TP alot of people go with their balancer. I have the eqinox and it is a good little balancer if that helps =)

What brand of packs are you going to be charging?

Probably a variety of packs. I am going to be trying out the packs from United Hobbies first.

I guess it doesn't really matter because you can get adaptor cables to convert any balancer to work with any pack, it's kind of a pain though.

If you go for the normal jst lineup that seems to be where the highest number of pack mfg's are and these include

align, esky, eflite, venom rc, commonsense rc, electrifly and great planes, park zone, dual sky, dynam ect all of which will work with the equinox without a seperate adaptor.

If you want to go to TP compatible that's an easy switch with one adaptor cable on the EQ, and to go reverse polarity JST on is pretty easy too, so just whatever you decide.

I thought a JST was a 2 pin plug? These have a balancer port on them and I will end up putting Power Pole connectors on them.

yeah, there are jst battery connectors too, there are actually more letters after the jst to specify the connectors, but most people don't use them and I don't really know what they are.

the jst I was refering to was the balance connector in this case =)

I got that one to work though with the item # from the othe one

they are probably the jst plug, and it doesn't matter the polarity because you can switch that pretty easy to work with the EQ if that is what you are going after. The reason why i think it is jst is because there are other hexatronic packs that say they come with the PQ balance tap, which is the same as the TP, and the TP and the jst are really the main types of balancing ends =)

Alright, sounds good. Looks like the equinox is at the top of the list then.
