Are standard receivers compatible with ESC?

I am new to electrics, and have made a scratch built foamie. I was going to use my Futaba 168DF receiver, but when I plug the BEC into the channel 3, throttle plug in the rx, it's not powering anything up.

I can test the servos by plugging in a 4.8v battery into the rx, but when I disconnect it and try to power the rx off of the BEC, nothing is happening. Are the standard receivers only able to power up off of the battery port?

With Futaba gear you usually have to reverse Channel 3 on the Tx.

While correct that with Futaba you have to reverse the throttle channel for the ESC to arm correctly, thats got nothing to do with the reciever not powering up.

Yes, it should power up by applying power to any servo port. I would suspect an issue with the BEC if your lipo is plugged up correctly.

Yeah, sounds like either a BEC problem, or perhaps you have an ESC with no BEC? Or a clipped BEC wire?

Also, make sure your connection to channel 3 on the receiver is not backwards. Some ESCs use a JST style plug without the flange that Futaba uses to prevent a reverse connection. The brown wire goes to ground on the receiver.

See above.
