Default Ripmax P51D Mustang Conversion to 4 Stroke

I've just finished converting the Ripmax 48" Mustang to house an OS 40 Surpass. Straight forward installation with the CoG working well using a 5 cell NiMh sitting back next to the Elevator and Rudder servos. Only reservation is the rocker cover poking out of the bottom. I installed a 1/8th length of piano wire to lift it off the ground - hopefully it will be OK. Maiden is tomorrow if the weather holds out. I was initially considering a 25FX which would sit inside the cowl but I plumped for the 4T as it sounds nicer

I used a 4oz tank that lasted approx 10 mins on the bench with a mix of half and 3/4 throttle although this was the first run so was rich. Times should improve

Cylinder heads and mufflers hangin' out in the breeze has always been part and parcel of glow engine powered planes.

You did a great job, looks fantastic!

Well she flew. Quite abit tail heavy which surprised me as as it balanced spot on with the stated COG at 90 - 95mm and considering I had the 4T up front. I had to add 100gams of lead to the nose and a bit of down elevator for her to fly level hands off. There may not be enough down thrust atm as she also wants to dive when inverted. A couple of washers behind the mount and another test flight soon to see if it sorts it out.

There was no need to throw to launch - it leapt out of the hands with the 40 4T up front
