Hi guys,

I have purchased a fourstar 60 and a Hangar 9 Ultra Stick 60. Both are RTF but have four strokes on them. Ok, problem number one. I have not flown in 4 years. Lipo was just on the scene, DSM 2.4 was just hitting the scene (in my area) and all I ever used was glow. Well, I live in town HOWEVER I have my own private strip here on the side of my yard and 6 acres of powerline free acres to fly over.

The only thing that I have to abide by would be the noise factor. I can fly 12 hours with Electric and no one would even know but I cant fire up these Saitos and buzz them over my development with a good conscious. I have absolutely NO idea where to start. Could someone point me in the general area to even try to get an idea of what size batteries, motors, hardware etc id need for these 2 planes?

I have read up on Lipos and I swear, Im still a bit overwhelmed. Also, the motor selection....what the heck is a Kv? ha!

I have a couple of glow kits on the bench that Iplan to convert to electric myself and have been doing a bit of research on the topic. All of the terminology is bit daunting, but if you spend a bit of time googling "glow to electric" conversions" you will find some good resources. Once you get past the terminology, it seems fairly straightofrward.

Another approach is to use the "pre-sized" selections from E-flite: www.e-fliterc.com/PowerSystems/. They have rated their electirc motors with an equivalent glow engine size to make the selection simpler.

one thing about the electric motor size equivalent is most will run a larger prop size.

also this forum is opposite its electric plane to glow power.

One good set of motors out there are the Eflight motors from horizon. i would get the power 60 for the 4 star 60.

run both of these set ups on the planes. i would run 6S packs on both or 8S if want more power or need it.

for the 4star 60 run a 16x12 APC prop cut down to a 13-14" for groun clearence

for the stick run a 15x10 prop if you can both of these set ups will give you about 2 hp 1,500 watts.

you will need a good charge also. i like the hitec 4x50 or the new 4x80 set up. you can charge 4 batterys at a time.

now some guys will refer you to Hobby King. the prices are very very cheap but going over there you WILL get confused with all the different motor battery and speed control selections. most of the products over there do not have high quality standards. the products i mentioned above will cost more but you are buy speed controls made here in America and are well proven. both products above also come with great warranty.

for batterys i would get the EVO batterys from tower, also look at hyperion and thunder power. I suggest you buy the best batterys you can afford. they are the heart of any electric system.

now this will cost some money for all this but will have quality equipment that will last for several years to come. also if you would liek some more help shoot me an email.
