Default CDI conversion for GX 25

Hi,

I've done a lot of research about getting rid of the magneto ignition on this and replacing it with an electronic system. I can't seem to see a definative way forward though. Is there an 'off the shelf' package that people like here? Preferably something that provides a prop hub with a magnet too.

I'm also wondering if there is a UK or european supplier of prop hub adapters, both for flywheeland or/CDI ignition? I've seen Carr Precision but am wondering if there is anything closer to home!

Best,

Luke

You need someone to hold your hand while going to the bathroom?

Thanks for your really generous offer pe_reivers. I must decline your offer though, as that's not my kinda thing. However, if that's what you like you could try here: http://www.georgemichael.com

Hmm.
't was not an offer in that sense, but meant in good humor.
There is very little available to cater for your needs. It does not take a lot of work however to transfer your magneto drive into a CDI ignition.
RCexl makes conversion units for Zenoah engines.. Lacking that option, most chainsaw engines do have a second outgoing shaft, where a crude magnet holding disk can be attached. Something adjustable for the hall sensor to hold onto must be provided next.
It does not have to be pretty, it just has to do the intended job, and your conversion is good to go.

Dear Mr. lukehall

Take the example of Zenoah engines great engines wright?

I think i could call it some kind of reduced magnetos

They don´t remove completely the flywhell to give torque to the engine, maintaining a smooth functioning , in my opinion!

Do you think it is a good idea remove the fly wheel of your wonderfull GX25 ?

Honda makes great engines , just great engines , for me is the best engines in the world , i had 4 motorcycles honda , all different but great engines .

I think you could try it first in a 2 stroke engine more cheaper than the GX 25, and take notes and conclusions , analyse the behavior of the engine before and after CDI conversion.
To get an approach of what it is removing flywheel , modify to CDI , to have that concepts in mind

Best Regards

Nuno Monteiro from Oporto Portugal

..
Often it is best to leave the flywheel in place. It tends to balance the engine in support of the crankshaft counterbalance mass.

Thanks very much! I saw this thread before. I guess what I was hoping to find was an 'off the shelve' solution for a GX25. I think I'll stick with the flywheel/magneto system for the time being. :-)

Carr Precision engines lists conversion kits for the Honda four stroke engines and has ECDI conversions as well.

The Honda engines have had several design changes over time. You should have the crankshaft dia. and the key width for Carr.
