Help! What engine is this??

I had good luck with Kawasaki motorcycles.
Anyway, I'm not about to lay out that kind of money for a crank. Too bad, because the rest of the engine is brand new. I haven't been able to find a used engine online except for a couple in England and they won't ship. If anyone has a 22.5cc Kawasaki engine with a bad piston/cylinder that they want to sell cheap, let me know.

Thanks Captain. For some reason, the Kawasaki powered machines are pretty rare here in the states. From searching online, it seems they are much more prevalent in Europe.
The model numbers are: KHD600A or KHS750A or TF-22; all hedge trimmers. I don't know what other machines Kawasaki might have used this engine in, but it is 22.5cc.
Thanks again,

I recently took apart a Kawasaki KBL23A, the piston and rings were badly scored but the rest including the cylinder head were in good condition.
I re-used an ECHO 32.2mm (21cc) piston which was badly scored but I reduced the diameter anyway to fit (from 32.2mm to around 31.9mm) and after sanding the Echo rings and reducing the diameter slightly they all fit well in the Kawasaki engine. The Echo piston was almost 1mm higher than the Kawasaki piston above the wrist pin but after cutting out 2 additional 0.3mm aluminium head gaskets the transplanted wacker burst into an erratic song. With the re-manufactured piston and rings it wasn't reliable but after doubling the oil content (from 1:32 to 1:16) it now marches like a trooper, reliable and powerful. I guess I will try cut grass with it a few times until the new piston and rings settle in the cylinder before it is converted to join the fleet.

Wow, that was a lot of work to get a weed whacker going again! Good job! I've got the two of them. One is used but in very good condition. The other is new but has no crank. I guess I'll just use all the best parts and make one excellent engine and have parts left over.

It reminds me of an Olson and Rice engine that was on a compact generator I once had. Can't say for sure as I no longer have the little engine, long gone! This outfit built military Drone engines as well as
hobby engines of various sizes, long gone now. Just a thought?

I also have a Muncie Gear Works outboard powered with a 1 hp motor, but that is not an O&R.

You'll like that Stihl Four Mix. They sound neat and are quite powerful for a four stroke. Nearly the power of an equivalent size two stroke. Technical data is hard to find for Stihl engines because they only give it to the dealers and make people take any they put on the Internet back off. I have the data though if you need it. (I think I can still find it..... had a computer crash a while back.)

I have the engine out of the unit, it is quite hefty, do you have any idea about the weight once stripped and trimmed? I always use RCEXL ignition.

STIHL 36cc FOUR MIX
Mine weighs 3 lbs. 10 oz. (1.64 kilograms), including the prop hub, washer, and nut, and the mounting stand offs, bolts, washers, etc. Not too bad. I think my Honda 31cc four stroke weighed around 5 lbs. or so. I think it will be great on a stand off scale Fokker D7 that I hope to build for it some day. Meanwhile, the engine has been lying around for nearly two years collecting dust! They sound great without a muffler; just a straight stack exhaust like you see on mine. Now you've made me dig the engine out again, I'll need to clean it up, paint the exhaust and valve cover, etc. AARG!
Anyway, I have all the service technical info if you need anything that you don't have. I also have some un-converted 65cc Stihl Four Mix engines if anyone is interested in buying them. (There is no cutting involved at all to convert them, and they have about the power of a Zenoah G-62 when you're done.)
Just a quick note to add: When you work on it, keep in mind that the entire engine has to be air tight. If the valve cover, it's hold down screw, or the front cam cover have any air leaks, it will act like a two stroke with bad crank seals. If everything isn't air tight, it will either run lean, or not at all. It's simple to do if you know about it. Just make sure all gasket surfaces are clean, and I use Yamabond on all the sealing surfaces.

Have you tried a Zenoah 23cc or a Stihl crank? the Zen has a 28mm stroke which may be OK if it fits in the crankcase, the Echo/Kioritz and Fuji/Makita/Robin cranks (for similar capacity engines) are probably not ideal, they only measure 26mm/27mm.

Under 3.5 - 4 lbs. for a 4stroke is not too bad for a scale model, the OS 40cc and NGH 38cc are only about 1/2 lbs. lighter.
I imagine that the Stihl will still be swinging props long after the OS and NGH use by date.

I had three versions of Ryobi 4 stroke engines before I moved, kept only the latest, but have not done anything with it yet.
If you locate the data you have for the Stihl 4-mix, let me know, as I am still interested in them. Thanks.
