Need more power which 42 -46cc to convert
Hello Everyone.
I´m really happy with my 33cc Mitsubishi conversion but definitively I need more power on my Stick kind plane to be able to have fun and do better aerobatics and perhaps some 3D with it.
Im going to get a 40 to 46cc chainsaw and I would like to hear your advice before taking a decition.
- Is there an RPM or weight difference between POULAN 42 and POULAN 46cc
- If going to a 46cc size engine should I better get a 52cc one
- Have any of you heard of Shimaha engines
Any expertise with this size of weedwacker engines and its convertion as well as which airplanes are you using them on will be greatly appreciated.
Regards.

The Poulan 42 and 46 are completly different engines. The 46 has more power, but is harder to convert (intake manifod)
46 or 52cc?? depends on which brand
Maybe Shindawa???

The Echo SB-1080 shortblock is the basis of the BME 50. If you are going to buy something then buy one of these. Of the 20 or so conversions I have done this is the best by a mile. It has everything going going for it. It is light weight, beam mount, and no goofie carb attachment work arounds. If you want you can buy everything you need to "convert". Get a NOS 13 or 15mm walbro carb that has an accelerator pump. Check on EBAY for a NOS carb.

The Poulan 42 and 46cc engines come out of chain saws. As you said, the 46cc engine needs to have an intake manifold made, but it is the better engine. More power and a good bit lighter as well. The 42cc engine is ok, but does weigh more, and you must convert it to electronic ignition. The coil for the magneto ignition mounts in the saw; not on the engine for the 42cc. So you can't use the factory magneto on the 42cc.
