BalsaUSA Eindecker+Homie25=GREAT
I acquired a Balsa USA Eindecker as part of a trade awhile back and just parked it and didn't think much about it. Then I had some time on my hands and needed something to do. SO I got the thing out and looked it over. The covering is all wrong, (monocote) the landing gear is awful, and it has no scale detail. But I thought the basic dimensions were pretty good. So in went an old completely stock Homie 25 that I had converted about 7 years ago. 16X8 MAS prop. I put the rudder and elevator servos in the tail with pull pull cables on both. Rx and 2000 mil NiMH battery and throttle servo are at the rear of radio compartment. Balance was spot on, NO LEAD anywhere. All up weight is around 11 lbs. I took it to the field last evening, not knowing what to expect. WOW was I surprised. This thing is a ball to fly. It acts like a big trainer. Gets off the ground real quick. It is very docile and easy to predict. Flying low and slow making tight turns is kind of like flying an over sized fun fly plane. BIG ole loops (or tight if you prefer) rolls a little slow for my liking, although other guys at the field said "that thing rolls great". Did not try any spin testing yet. I think this engine-plane is a great combination. Plenty of power but not overpowered and lite enough to fly with a lite wing loading. Now lets see, a big bore carb, advance the timing, a little stuffing and some port work. OH YEAH it is a keeper.

Yes it is. ABS plastic and not worth a crap. It is already cracking. I just laid some fiberglass cloth, on the inside around the screw holes, with plastic CA, drilled the holes larger and installed rubber grommets in all the holes. Maybe this will help a little.

Yaaaay! Another Homie convert![sm=thumbup.gif] I have them in 4 planes now and they're great: two stock 25s in a 100" Cessna Bobcat, one 25 with bigger carb in a 1/5 WACO bipe, one stock 33cc in a BUSA DR1, and two 33s in a 118" Bf-110.
I think you'll find that the bigger carb alone will increase the performance of the 25cc dramatically. It will turn an 18-6 pretty well. The 33s (out of 14" chainsaw) already have the bigger carb on them.
On my plastic BUSA cowls I reinforce them with a couple layers of 1oz. glass cloth on the outside using epoxy thinned about 30% with laquer thinner. The laquer thinner will help etch into the plastic so the cloth adheres better. This will stiffen up the cowl considerably, and you can sand between coats to get it smooth. I also trace the inside edge of the cowl and make a plywood ring and CA the cowl to it. Then you can mount it to the firewall with screws from the inside...works great.
Enjoy your Homie!

Stans Fibertech shows eleven cowls for BUSA aircraft. The last one, USA-31, is for an Eindecker. Might be worth a try:

You will like it. Acts like a big trainer. Although the ground handling is a little spooky with the tail skid.
Have fun.
