Default RE: What engine makes the lightest conversion?

hi guys two questions

1. i have a craftsmen weed wacker engine that i pulled off it has no metal back plate and the muffler is spring retetion will this motor work for me

2. would one of these motors have enough power to fly the funtana 90 for 3d cause my saito 150 weighs between 28-30 os and the weight of these conversion motors would be perfect and at 28 bucks a gallon for 30% nitro heli fuel the fuel savings would be great also

thanks kevin

ps i looked at the list for the e85 dstributors and t he closest is in ny and im in ct is this stuff sold in gallon containers so they could ship it to me

Hi kevin, the funtana 90 is the next plane on my list with its 1000+ sq inch wing area it will hold even a ryobi 31, and if you convert it to gasoline/glow set up the weight savings are great a feather light engine without the heavy muffler is about 28oz so if you can replace the muffler with an aluminum one you will be right in the ballpark of wath you are trying to achieve. good luck
Aero Nut.
P.S. read the tread of gasoline glow plug no ignition page 4 and see what some converts are trying to replace the E85 fuel using denatured alcohol or pure methanol for that instance.

ZAGNUT: I found a hedge trimmer made by Sthil today at a flea market. It looked like about 25cc. Not sure? It said model 45L or something like that? We could not get together on a price. It sure did have good compression. The blades worked, so he wanted quite a lot for it. How are the small Sthil engines for power ect? Thanks Capt,n P.S. Do you think the Funtana 90 will hold a small gasser? Or Ryobi on glow?

Engine Weed eater 25 CC
Propeller APC 15x8

RPMS 8200
Wheigth of engine 1lb. 12 oz. (without magneto ignition)

Hey Capt,n all you have to do is put a prop hub on them and go, you won't find an engine with the power they have stock, I run all mine on EI to keep the weight down.

I'm doing a Tanaka .23 conversion to diesel. It's not together yet but I just weighed all the parts including the diesel head. All up is 1 Lb. 14 ounces. I'm hoping to lug a REALLY big prop on diesel but I have little experience with gas so diesel may not have that much more advantage. Will also run it on pure meth fuel.

Is that .23 cubic inch or 23cc? Any more information on this engine, like what it's used in or where to buy it? Thanks!
