Went to the site shown at the beginning (1) of this discussion built microcontroller board. Downloaded the c-code. Copied and pasted into MicroC as told but what do you do now?

So went another path and downloaded hex file and programmed into my board but all it will do is make a led on the output of the optoisolator flash at about a 1/4 second on-off cycle. Input from hall effect unit has no effect on output. If a bridge from pin 8 is taken to ground, the led stays full on but that's about the only action I can get out of the whole project.

                                                    Any ideas??

Lots of work with no result.

B/Boat
I had a look around the Russian site. Seems they have taken on your project with enthusiasm.
I have a query about tagging a power board that I have used here for many years, onto the end of your controller board. It is standard transistor and coil arrangement. If I remove the hall effect from my circuit (shown below) and tap the base resistor of the BC640 into the 150R of the opto in your circuit, will there be a need to write a new program. I understand your controller normally gives a pulse to the SCR trigger but I would need a saturation timeif i use a coil.

Etching pcbs.

Pcb shown is 13 x 9.5mm (not part of cdi) and shows what can be achieved without to much expense and effort.

Toner transfer method used.
Artwork was printed onto Dick Smith catologue paper with lazer printer.
Transfered to pcb with hot iron.
Paper removed with water.
If any imperfections correct with sharpie permanent marker.
Then etched in ferrite chloride.

Ok, rather then wait (could be forever) I will assume "ground plain" is refering to the copper left on pcb.

Cheers

I notice the pcb layout is a scan of a print or something. It comes out pale with white streaks through it, not good for toner transfer method.

I don't understand the problems you make.
At the bottom of the website there are files to download.
If you instal Layo1, you can even change the pcb if you like.

@captinjohn, 1996 ????????......you mean 2006 and there are no changes anymaore.

Any help much appreciated.

In the meantime I will keep trying.

Thanks

Not happening.

Is there someone out there who understands my problem and who can send me a copy of pcb layout.

I will try and make myself clearer.

I used layout 1:1,5
You will see if you print this out it is very pale and has white streaks.
No good for toner transfer method (any method for that matter)
I have downloaded Layo1 program but can't get pcb layout up in program.
Not sure that if I do it will be any better.

Dave

edit: to date I have used ms word to resize and print supplied pcb layouts

No one has the time to send pcb layout????????????

Must say, not a very helpful bunch of people on these forums, but thats typical of people today.

With a little help, not from here, I have managed to do pcb.

Have a nice day.

Dave

Re winding transformer.

I bought a ccfl inverter. They did not have 100mm so got the 300mm inverter. Went to wind 400t of 0.25mm wire on and there is no way it was ever going to fit. Having read in post 42 that 0.15mm wire "have to work" I used that and it just fit on former.

Now I am about to assemble board I read in post 105 that " 0.13 wire may not get power to load cap". Not much difference between 0.13 and 0.15mm? Bit worried now.

Sould I have used 0.25 and reduced the number of turns? If so to what?

Also, is there better instructions on making a coil, eg wire size number of turns etc.

TIA

Dave

Hi Dave,

You need to remove some of the plastic in the transformer to make the windings fit. There are some "walls" seperating the windings, these need to be removed. Have you done this?

Best regards,
Futterama

Hi Futterama,

No I didn't remove walls. Not sure it will make enough difference, I think I wouldn't get much more than 200 on.

Hi Dave,

You have to remove the walls, I get about 300-350 turns on this transformer.
The size of the wire doesn't matter.....but you have to know:
If the Voltage is high - the current can be low.
If the Voltage is low - the current must be high.
The current makes the wire size, low current thin wire - high current thick wire.
The ignitioncoil needs: high Voltage or high cuurent.
Becourse you don't get enough winds of thick wire on this small coil, you need thin wire to get a high Voltage.
Some where between 0.13 and 0.25 will good enough to get 400 Volt with enough current.
But there is a limmit you can do, it's not possible to take very-very thin wire to rice the Voltage.
A coil like this can handle about 500-600 Volt without blast the wires.
