Default Echo GT 1000

How many cc is a Echo Gt 1000 string trimmer? Got it going today on 10% glow fuel. Seemed to run pretty good with no carb adjustments!!!!! Seems like the prop may be too small to me so I did not open it wide open yet!!! More to be done on it when I get a chance. Capt,n

Capt,n,

That is a 16cc engine. I have one that I converted and ran it on gas with electronic ignition. From memory it would turn a 14 or 15 inch prop I think. Would go good in a smaller cub etc. Anyone want to buy it??

I started all my conversion madness with that particular engine. Flew a ten pound plane ok at sea level for normal aerobatics, but was underpowered when I moved to 5000 feet elevation....

I would try a 14 x 8 APC. I think that's what I settled on as being best.

If my memory is correct it was 8mm X 1.25. For the mount I made an aluminum plate or radial mount. Mounted it to the engine then to the firewall. I will look for a picture of mine.

8mm X 1.25 is what the 23.6 is.

I believe they are the same.

Here is a picture of the one I did. Not very good showing the mount but you will get the idea.

To save weight on most of my conversions, I just install studs in the backplate that slide through the firewall and have flat washers and nuts behind the firewall. It's a little less convenient having to reach in behind the firewall to install the washers and nuts, but it's lighter and saves having to make the mounting plate.

When I did my Echo 16cc, it flew a 10 lb. airplane ok at sea level, but was underpowered when I later moved to an altitude of 4500 feet. (This was on an aerobatic plane.) But this was before we invented "Gas/Glow". It would have more power and be lighter on Gas/Glow, and therefore more feasible, especially on a more floater type of airplane such as a Cub or Telemaster.

Hay tim220225 , how do you get your motors so nice and clean looking? Look very good
Did you make the muffler?
I've noticed on some of your other post, (Poulan 25CC) you like the round motor mounts, any reason for that?

I've got one of the 16cc motors too. My plan is to make a hovercraft one of these days and use it on that.

Thanks for the compliments. No reason for the round mounts, just looks cleaner on some engines. Plus if I have the rotary table setup on the mill I just go with it. As for the consistent appearance of the engines I bead blast all the parts before I put the engine together. Didn't make the muffler. This one was from Ken Lambert as I recall. Also have some from Scott at Brillelli.

I don't think this one is made anymore. Mine was pretty old, I think in the late 70's or early 80's.

The good news is they don't make these any more.

The better news is that you can pick them up for the asking at most small engine repair shops.

Hi, I just picked up one of these engine (16cc GT1000)
, the guy at the small engine shop didn't know how many cc's this one was and I really
wanted something more like 24-26 cc range. It looks good without too much wear, so my question is this, I want to put it on
a champion (cub type) that has 108" wingspan 15" chord (roughly 1600" sq.in. area) and the airframe weights aprox. 10-11 lbs
(no engine, no radio) so maybe 14-15lbs finished? I don't intend on doing much more than mild flying with this thing, think it's
worth converting?

One thing I do like is that it would fit completely inside the cowl , and can you guys tell me where I could get a prop hub
for it?

This would be my first conversion, hopefully I will end up with something that matches the craftmanship you guys are
showing, really beautiful stuff!

Thanks.

I really think your new motor is too small. Look at the new H-9 Cub with the G-20, the plane is nowhere near as large as what you are doing and the engine is about 30% more displacement. I would look for a 23 or 26cc engine to convert. Good luck.

Default RE: Echo GT 1000

I would definatly say to small. There was a guy from Tuscon, south of me who was selling his engines from the same size cub and one other [plane] he had here on RCU.All 3 of them where no smaller than 22cc.He said they flew it good but that was it,so expect there wasnt a lot of reserve power or anything. The only thing you might have would be a powered glider but ypou might have to have a high start to assit in takeoffs. Now i dont know for sure, this is only from what ive read here. But i was going to put my 16cc echo on my 96 inch spook,it only weighs 7 lbs.But i thought against it and sold it a week ago because im going to put on my 24cc echo with cdi ign.I had a K&B 61 on it and i didnt like it.Flew it,but not just enough oomph.Especially in an emergency and i had one.Let a guy fly it and he stalled it close to the deck,i almost didnt recover[15feet before terra firma].Its only a 3 channel.
