Default Post Prop adapters here

Avator: Is this your prop adapter? Is the part on crank a cut down flywheel? Where did you get the hex shaped part? Good way to tighten on threads. Thanks Capt,n

Hi,

Yep, that's my Echo 23.6cc on my Katana, and my prop hub. Yes, the part on the crank is cut out of a flywheel. I use a hole saw to (carefully) cut out the center of the flywheel with a drill press. Then I dress it round on the lathe, (drill press in a pinch). I use a piece of an old crankshaft as a mandrel, but I have done it with a large bolt, nut, and some flat washers before as well.

The hex part came with some of the used Echo's I scrounged up, but you can buy them at the hardware store too.

Works perfect, even at 9000+ rpms.

I made the muffler as well, out of a brass elbow, some thin wall steel tubing, washers, etc. Amazing what you can do if you want to take the time and be patient. BTW, those aluminum angle motor mounts weighed 2 oz. LESS than the plastic mounts that came with the plane. I was surprised when I weighed them. The Katana balanced with no added weight anywhere.

I've also heard it called a "stud nut".... A good hardware store has them in various sizes and threads usually...

I suppose now that I have a lathe I'll have to make "nice" prop adapters huh??

We call it an all thread coupler in the construction industry. Available in a variety of thread sizes.

I got one in my tool box....but it is steel and heavy. Do they make the same in aluminum? They used such a thing at shop to remove studs from a block. Run a nut down first on stud and then the long threaded hex and tighten against each other. Made a good stud remover...without wrecking threads. Capt,n
