This Cement Saw shall fly !!!
I was given a Partners K650 cement saw to do a conversion with.
So far it looks realy good.
It's a 72cc engine I'm hopeing to run on gas-glow.
I have cleaned up one case and am getting ready to do the other half.
So I decided to stop and take some pictures before going any further.
I'll try to keep everyone updated.

RE: This Cement Saw shall fly !!!
You can see the piston through the exhaust port and carbon on top of the piston
so you know it has not been cleaned yet.
Did I mention 3 pounds and 6 ounced stripped down.
A prop hub some stand offs and some Gas-Glow mix and it will be ready for a test run :-)
By the way Captain the guess about the cement dust tearing up the engine was very logical. I expected it too.
It is good to be blessed.

RE: This Cement Saw shall fly !!!
They do but...
When hired help get a hold of stuff they use it and abuse it.
Does any one know how to figure the size of tubing to use in a muffler for this thing?
It did not come with a muffler, so I'll need to make one.
That brings me to another point of interest.
I bought a propane torch from Harbor freight the other day and some rod to weld aluminum with.
I practiced on some flashing I had laying around and it was very easy.
The torch looks weird but it is the best torch I have ever seen for a propane bottle.
I think it was $12.00 or $16.00 and has a lighting button on it. They only carry one torch for bottles.
I was really suprised they both worked so well.
No preheat. Lay the rod on the metal, add heat and when it starts to melt move the heat forward.
The rod melts just before the base metal gets to hot and melts.

Hi Ralph,
What are you going to put that engine in?
I think it would be fun to try some kind of engine conversion, but I'd have trouble installing the muffler bearings properly. I'm not very mechanically inclined.

I think you are going to need some beefy stand-offs for that beast!!!! Otherwise the cement saw may fly before you want it too!! Capt,n

That is a concern to me too.
The bolts that are being used are about 1/4"dia. and have a built in washer that is 7/16 in diameter.
So I'll need to turn down the last 3/8 of an inch of the 1/2" stand offs-offs to 7/16.
I'm planning on using 5 stand-offs.

Not yet.
I thought I had a prop hub that would fit it off a big Echo.
But it doesn't. The taper is right but the threads are to deep in the hub to screw on.
So close yet so far.
And then there is the muffler I need to build.
It looks like it will be another week or two.

RE: This Cement Saw shall fly !!!
Hello Ralph,
My first message to rc universe, hello everybody.
It is expensive to buy a weedeater or chainsaw here, therefore, there are no converts around , just me and a friend of mine started a couple of moths ago. We are playing with engines very similar to yours. 78 cc with reed valve on crank case. The shape of the crankcase castings and crankshaft and engine color also, resemles that the manufacturer of our engines is the same as yours. We know that they are imported from china, and there is rumour that none of them works. Thats why we bough them at a bargain price 30 USD each brand new. (I think similar size STIHL is around 1.000-1.500 USD) Ours were complete powerheads with tank, muffler, carburator, air filter etc.
We tried to run but they refused so we tore them to pieces. Nothing scary here, compression was very good. There may be problem with the carburator or ignition, which we will change both. The carburator is something I have never seen before, maybe also a chinese product. I do not have much progress, just cut away the extra case, now trying to decide how to's for crank shaft extension and motor mount. I think my friend followed my initial idea for the prop attachment and motor mount, maybe completed by now but I havent seen yet. He told me that the crank shaft is soft and can easily be machined. Our plan is to try automatic advace EI first, then try glow gas.
I am a fast but extremely busy man and this peaked nowadays. I'll keep you informed upon progress meanwhile I have some questions.
I have noticed sub piston induction on all these china made engines, but the amount varies from engine to engine. (totally we are playing with 6 engines). Does your exaust port has sub piston induction?
Do you have any progress since yr last message?

RE: This Cement Saw shall fly !!!
My engine was made in Sweden.
I decided to have mine finnished by Ralph at rcignitions.
He has years of experence and I wanted to make sure everything was the best.
I'm puting mine on a 540 edge and with all the money I have invested in it
I wanted everything perfect. I hate to crash and I really hate maiden flights.
Gas-glow my be the simplest way for you guys to go.
it would elemanate a half of everything that could give you problems.
I have a couple of engines that run well on gas-glow.
I'll post the numbers when I get the engine back.
I really expect it to be a power house.

Ralph Cunningham did my Poulan 46. It has always been a great runner. When I had an ignition problem years later, I sent it to him he fixed it @ no charge (I paid all shipping) and had it back to me in less than a week! He is a great guy to deal with.

RE: This Cement Saw shall fly !!!
I hear this all the time about Ralph, that's why I sent it to him.
I'm pretty excited about the whole thing.
He has this engine and a Echo 61cc twin, chainsaw engine of mine.
I didn't like the way the Echo was going to have to be mounted so I sent it along too.

Good. discarded the last picture maybe there is a limit for three, I'll attch the last one. Althaugh the engines have different brand names, orange and yellow are almost exacty the same with minor deviations in case casting for some bolt seats (reinforced). This vesion difference is also apparent among the orange ones. Yellow struggled to run a little bit but it was very rough.

Hey Ralph, Partner and Target are now owned by Husqvarna. The saw engine will be a beast. I wouldn't be too concerned with standoffs. Look at the new DA-85 for some ideas. Can't wait to see the pictures when you are done.

RE: This Cement Saw shall fly !!!
Last week it was all I could do not to call Ralph and ask "Is it done yet???
He had it on the 17th of last month. It should be my turn soon.
I'm putting it on an older 82" 540 Edge that some one put together from a kit.
The plane, as far as I can tell is suppose to have a 50cc engine.
I'm planing on putting the Partner engine on it.
I did tell Ralph if he saw "STUFF" that needed to be done to go ahead and do "IT".
So maybe he will Massage it a little for me, but maybe not.
But the engine looked so good, Forged crank and rod. Made in Sweden lazer eched on the crank.
I do have high hopes for this engine.
Another alternitive is the Echo 61cc twin. That would be cool in the 540 also.
I don't know if you noticed but Keith's web site has been down a few days.
I just recieved the mufflers for the twin on Monday I belive and was going to email him
to tell him thanks and I had received the mufflers.
But when I went to his site it was down.
I'm on my 3rd crankshaft in the BME 2.8 that I started building early last year.
This time I think I got it right.
The machinest who was puting them together admitted he was doing it HIS way and was not following the plan.
I'll be ready to test run it again in a week or so, we'll see how things go.
