I am new here, I have a few question about the Honda GX35 4 cycle engine:

1) Is the crankcase material stronger than the normal engine crankcase? Most of the string trimmer engines make of material that is very brittle and break off like plastic, don't take much to crack them. When you crash, it almost always break something.
2) Is the timing belt reliable?
3) Is there posibility of piston hitting the valves if the timing belt break? Does it has enough head room to clear the valve at TDC and valve wide open?
4) Is the timing belt inside the oil fill area that need to tear down the engine to get to it?

1) no engine is going take a very hard hit without damaging something

2) 2 year home owner warrenty and 1 year commercial warrenty, apparently its reliable

what you're asking is if the engine is an interferance engine.
an interferance engine is when the valves will hit the piston if not timed correctly but i do not know if this engine is one or not, i guess not though.

the crank should be made out of the same stuff that most trimmers are made from, after all the company really is just worried about selling us cheap $#@& so they get more $$

THanks for the info. I forgot to ask, does the GX35 cylinder have any sort of lining, chrom plated, cast iron or just plain aluminum? Is the timing belt make of similar rubber material as fan belts in cars or is different?

Bore is plain aluminum, I read somewhere that the piston is coated
belt is a rubber that is compatible with oil and is reinforced

I've been running one of these things for over 2 years and shows no signs of any problems.
