onboard charging system?
is this possible?
i remember seeing something along the lines of a ring that you put onto behind a spinner/propeller that had magnets or something in it and it hooked to some kind of coil to charge the receiver battery.
has anyone thought of doing this with a weedie engine? possibly the rear crank stub of an echo or something?
EDIT: im referring to the sullivan genesys system

RE: onboard charging system?
It is possible. You'd need to know the maximum output voltage and use a simple voltage regulator preceeded by a rectifier bridge.
EDIT: I remembered you can also use a used stepper motor (taken out from an old printer, for instance) a generator

RE: onboard charging system?
i thought stepped motors had a stopper so they acted very much like a servo???[&:]
i used to have one.
but i just put a 12v 540 motor in the drill press at 3600 rpm and it only got 2v[]

Do a search for "longest RC flight record" you will find a about onboard chargers and fine tuning engines not to quit and be very fuel efficient. Capt,n
