Default Cub Cadet

Which engine is the Cub Cadet 4 stroke trimmer and is it good for conversion? How would the size and cowlability be compared to something like a Satio 1.80.

Hey, the Cub is really a Ryobi, which has been around quite a while and is really a good engine. However it is heavy. The most common displacement is around 26/26 cc. Not a real power house but decent. Must be mounted with the cyl. head up. When converted to EI and a light weight exhaust it will come in under 4 lbs, with a mag nearly 5lbs. best suited to a floater type plane. I just finished a mag version and am pondering if I can make it a glow/gas engine, If I can it should be even lighter than an EI version.

Thanks. Are talking about using a glow plug with gas?

Hey TFF, no gas/glow is a mixture of the two, a great concept check out the gas/glow thread for a complete explanation. What type of plane do you have in mind for this engine?

I will look into it. I am looking for the right engine for a scratch built Sopwith Camel I want to build. I wish they had more power for a WWII plane.

TFF, the Ryobi would be great for a WWI model, they need more weight in the nose, but the upright cylinder probably would be awkward. The sound would be great though!

How much wing area?
How much will the Camel weigh?

What is the recommended engine? This will give us an estamated weight of an engine.

Can you find a thread where some on else has built and flown this aircraft?

I am ready to give it a go, my biggest quandry is over the glow plug adpter. The plug is a long reach, and I am some what concerned about the plug being up in a "chamber". I figure it will work, just a matter of how well. The engine is already converted to gas,so the last thing to do is make the adapter. We should know soon.

The Camel specifics have not been set yet. The plan is to build it for a competition plane. 1/4 scale but it can go up or down to fit all inside. I am using Replicraft Drawings for the design.
