frenchie79, I like the way you done things. That back plate helps to make a more rigid mount. You then can locktite the 4 smaller screws that attach the plate to engine. Standoffs are nice...you can make em any length for more that one airplane. Thanks again...it not only helps me but may others...some may not even post on here at all, but use this data. Best Regards capt,n

Thanks Capt'n, I've had 4 Stihl, one Homelite 30cc, an echo and a Ryobi mounted to this stand using only two doffrent back plates. The back plate with different mountoing holes makes it real easy. My next project is a Mac 28cc. Have to drill new holes in the plate for this one.

Thanks for this post!

It will help me a great deal. I like the idea of the centre being removed from the flywheel so you still have the keyway and taper. Good way of adjusting the ignition.

Thanks-can't take credit for that one. Terry at CH Electronics mentioned it to me. I've done a few and will try to post some examples that seem to work well. Very simple to adjust timing for max power.

Well my bearings and seals have arrived at the Stihl dealer. $10 for each crank bearing and $6 for each seal not bad really. Stocks are limited at Stihl apparently so if you think you need them get them. Yes I know you can get the bearings anywhere if you have the number and probably cheaper but the seals are the issue. Well unless you get sealed bearings that is but they cost alot more. Anyway gaskets are no longer available so you will have to make your own! Make sure you use the right thickness for the cyl base gasket though or you CR will be all over the place. Oh Frenchie thanks for passing on the info for the adj timing prop hub thing. Hopefully next week I can start on that part of the ongine.

Bradh2000, cant' wait to see what that Stihl 56cc engine does. I am tuning up/repairing a 56cc in my neighbors chainsaw and boy is it a powerful beast (in a good way).I wonder if I can talk him out of it! Can't complain though,he gave me two Ryobis and a Homy 30cc.

Is a special, premium bearing, with an integral pressure sealing system available?

As far as I know, std. garden variety, “sealed bearings†are designed to hold grease in, and dirt out. They are not the equivalent of a lip seal riding on the crank journal, installed next to a bearing, for containing pressure in a two stroke bottom end.

Actually I used a pair once (single sided sealed) on a two stroke motorcycle as an emergency (couldn't get the seals at the time) and it worked!! I kept the original worn seals in their place just in case and just replaced the bearings! For all I know the bike is still working! Sometimes you have to think outside the box!

I'm about to assemble a FS80 which is a 25.4cc Stihl. Cleaned up nice! The last one i did ran strong-
here is what it would do:
2lb 12.5oz
15x10APC-8300
16x8 MAS-8400
16x10APC-7620
Timing set at 30 deg., #28 size carb

This next one should be a bit lighter and will have a brand new set of Frank Bowman rings so i'm hoping that 16x10 APC will approach 8K.

Wow!
That looks nice. What method did you use to clean it up so that it looks that nice?

The internals were very clean, the engine went into a parts washer with normal solvent cleaner then into the crock pot with antifreeze and back into the parts washer and then good old soap and warm water. I want to paint it if i can find a high temp red paint-no luck though.

Go to your local automotive speed shop. Not the local auto parts supply, but a real speed shop and get engine paint. It's usually available in a multitude of colors and is fuel proof.

I've converted a stihl 26cc aswell looks different than yours though. it came out of a fs86 trimmer. I'm running gas/glow with 17x6w @ 8100 rpm. so far its been an excellent engine. it weighs in at 48oz but i could still do some more trimming.

Hey frenchie, bet this muffler would look real nice on that 25.4,just like it does on mine. Its off a Crrc Pro 26cc.All i had to do was run a rattail file on the inside of the tubes where the bolts are to make the bolts a little closer. And i mean a little by like about a Dozen strokes on each side.I used the large tooth rasp style.Took me about 30 seconds. There the ones that taper like a chain saw file size.Picked mine up here on RCU in the classifieds for $32.00 shipped.

Buck, I really like that thanks. Is it lite weight? I was going to make my own. Typical box style with one 1/2" tube. How much width does it add from the jug.

It weighs 4 oz with the bolts and it sticks out 1-1/4 inches from the fins to the edge of ill say the header. From the round can add 1/8th for the weld where the seam is outside of the header.
The only bad thing is id have to use standoffs. They would have to be 1-3/4 long to make sure the muffler didnt rub against the firewall.

I just completed a 24cc Stihl, darn if i can't remember the model. lost the tag for it. I'm thinking it's a FS51 but not sure. Maybe a little help here. It is off an old trimmer. As shown it weighs 2lb 9oz +/- an OZ. It really runs strong, 15x10 APC or 16x8 MAS turns around 8200 to 8300. This one is going into something for sure.
