working on a poulan 32
ok, gents heres the deal.
im making an ultraspadstick and i think i need something more than my (base gasket removed, exhaust bridge removed, bowman ringed) homelite.
i have a 32cc poulan that i wouldnt mind using, but i need some assistance getting it to airworthy status.
the exhaust port looks AWFUL tiny in comparison to my homelite. is there a way to do something about that? i plan to get a bowman ring for it, btw.
ill also remove the base gasket, and map the timing after i get the deck height right.
ive read several threads saying people are running these, but never any real finished pictures, or numbers or anything.
thoughts?
will be gas/glow fueled, btw.

RE: working on a poulan 32
I 've got a Poulan 22 which is the same as a 32. The 32 just has a bigger jug and piston. If it's the same as mine you could remove the cyl gasket and be ok but I would re-do ex. port timing after removing gasket. Ive contemplated re working the ex. port by widening it some as well as the timing but, I haven't got that brave yet. On my 22 I get 6500 with a stock carb, stock 32 muffler, Top Flight 16 x 6 and a Bosch plug. Believe it or not on the Poulan, the plug makes a big difference. I gained 400 RPMs just by changing to a different plug.

If you have an 11mm carb and a free breathing muffler on that Homelite with the other things you mentioned, it should run pretty good. Most of them I've done that way will turn a 16 x 8 prop at well over 8000 rpms. See this post about one I did several years ago: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_26...tm.htm#2621860
By the way, that engine is still running strong in a friends plane.

RE: working on a poulan 32
also, my poulan crankshaft is WAY long with fine threads on the end of it. would i be able to swap the crank from another poulan so i could get a short shaft version? or at the very least something with threads CLOSER to the engine?
av8tor, should i give it a try with the homelite before i assume it wont work then? (i already have, due to everyone saying that you need to downsize the plans for a 25cc, lol)

RE: working on a poulan 32
is it out of a blower or a weedie? those convert easy using the magneto ignition as all the prop adapter is is a spacer, with the shaft sticking through the prop and the stock nut with a washer holding it on... running on gas/glow can be a lot more compact, I would run a die down the crank then shorten it to your tastes, the cranks are just mild steel nothing fancy.
I still haven't ran either of mine, so I don't know how it'll run.

I've seen Ryobi 31s turn 17-8 at at 8500 RPMs. So if your Homey 32 is turning a 16-8 at 8000 Id say there is still room for improvement.
