I do have the DLE 55, if 110 is a twin it probably takes the same ring. For a complete list email me at: [email protected] Thanks Frank

CaptinJohn you were reading my mind.

My DLE 30 runs super, but the compression is not what I think it should be.

A set of Bowman rings be just the thing.

I'm still finishing up my Tiger Moth or I'd send Frank my engine and let him make a set of rings for it right now.

Perhaps in another month if and the weather get to bad to fly here in California.

Got to love that global warming. [sm=shades_smile.gif]

Captain, what are you doing?

I know you don't have enough run time on your DLE 30 to need a new ring.

Are you still striving for perfection?

I was actually wanting to do the same thing, but I couldn't justify it?

When I installed my rear carb kit...I pulled the cyl off & checked the ring. I believe the ring in my engine does not need too be that hard. Hey I do not know, but a hard ring with a lot of tension may wear the sleeve. The Boman ring would break in & seal much faster & as a side benifit...be more kind to the sleeve. I wish I new some person that had a piston & sleeve to sen to Frank. He does not have a master ring yet for the DLE30. Capt,n PS PM ME if you can.

I am not sure I understand..... I have had Frank make me rings before with nothing more than an accurate i.d., o.d., and thickness of the ring. (And description of the type of anti rotating pin.) Why would he have to have the cylinder and piston??

Default RE: Custom Piston Rings

Hello All, I need the Piston & Cylinder to get very accurate measurments with my tools. I have found over the years that not everyone knows how & will not measure items the same as the next person. In order to make the best ring possible I need to measure cylinder to make ring and bore gage to gap ring to .001 to .002 gap. With a difference of .001 measurement in bore meens either ring will not fit into cylinder or gap will be too big with loss of power. Manufactures don't make rings but job shops do and often times production is the name of the game rather than quality. I found factory rings arn't round, have too much tension which heats up engine too much, ring too loose in ring groove which is a loss of power and a worn ring groove in some cases. I make rings in lots of 10, hand lap to .001 smaller than feeler gage measurment of ring groove. Ring OD is exact cylinder bore measurment and the I have a special tool that snaps ring & I hand gap it to .001 to .002 of bore gage measurment. Hope that helps explain why I need to measure cylinder bore, ring land in piston, pin location & ring ID for proper clearance to bottom of ring groove land. Thanks Frank Bowman

Frank, I will call you tomorrow. The bore is 36 MM & I can measure the ring thickness with a micometer with standaed mike. I also have a mike for piston rings. It measures form face inside of ring. The anvel is round. But it looks like I may need to send you the piston & ring. Thanks Capt,n Note in photo...not to much contact surface to measure!!!!

Hello Captinjohn, I use a snap gage to measure down in gas cylinder bores like the one shown with multiple ports. I check it is 2-3 places to assure I get the right measurements and all measurements are the same and measure snap gage with OD micrometer. I have a few rings for 36MM bores, 3W 26CC, ST 3250, Moki 210, & Echo 30CC. It is possible that i have the ring, you can email me direct if you wish but I will be gone Saturday until 7 PM MST. Thanks Frank Bowman

I will get back to you and in the meantime measure the thickness of the ring. Or just find that dimension from someone who will measure one that is apart. I just got my DLE30 all together with the new rear carb induction kit. It runs good, but I did notice the ring is still no where seated yet. It does use a pin too prevent ring from rotating. Will keep in touch. I will PM you for your phone number too, so I can call you. Thanks Capt,n John

I talked with B. Carpenter who has a few DLE 30 engines. He may send a Piston & sleeve to you. The trouble is he is not feeling good at this time. I only have one DLE30 and am getting it & the my airplane ready to go. Best regards Capt,n

UPDATE I believe Bill (BCCI) sent a piston & ring to Frank so he could make some custom rings for the DLE30cc engine. Frank, please let us know how the project is coming. Thanks Capt,n

Terry at C&H Ign. sent a P&C to me for rings, I now have them in stock, $10 ea. $14 for (1) shipped, $24 for 2 shipped. Discount of $1 off per ring on orders of 10 or more mixed brands & sizes fine. Take care, Frank

I will let you know...even if it does not run better. My guess it will hand start better with more compression & have better fuel draw.....both depend on a very good ring seal. Capt,n
