85cc Tecumseh, conversion?
I have an 85cc engine from a snow thrower. It is heavy but I think in the end would be lighter than some 2 cylinder engines. The present set up dictates that the straight shaft end with the key way be used. Any ideas? Pictures of the actual engine then what the short block would look like.

Yes, there are carbs bigger than 13mm but like I said you need to experiment. You could try to find out what is used on the Quadra 75 or 100 or other similar large two stroke and that might be a good starting point. Dont know if a Walbro will bolt right on though. You might need to make a manifold or adapter. I know there are other guys who can help you here if they see your thread.

I have access to most any thing needed and can build it. Going to look into the bigger engines for carb info. Here are some pictures of the current one.

No, sorry but I don't have any experience using Gas/Glow with the Tillotson carbs. The only thing you could do is try and see if the carb works without developing problems due to the Gas/Glow fuel. If I had to guess, I would say that it would work, but only trying will tell for sure. On all of my engines, including regular gas/ignition system engines, I have gone to using a "storage fuel" after flying to help the carb diaphragms live longer with the additives found in many of todays gasolines. There is a thread here in engine conversions about that deal.

Tecumseh used that carb on the their four stroke lawn mowers, edgers, etc as far back as I can remember. I began working at my uncle's lawn mower shop starting around 1965 and they were using it at that point. It works essentially the same as the Walbro but has NO pump. It simply uses gravity feed to provide fuel to regulating side of the carb. All of the ones I have worked on in my career had a metering needle in the center of the carb body actuated by the diaphragm. The Walbro uses a rocker to transfer the diaphragm motion to the needle but that's about the only difference in the metering. I would think one could use a separate pump with this carb and have the same results as a walbro. Best of luck with the conversion and Happy Flying.
