This is the second instance of this I've seen in this thread. If I remember correctly, some two strokes do use a kind of a sub port induction to get a bit more air into the engine, but I don't know if that is the case here or not. More likely the piston is installed incorrectly, or someone modified the piston. Sometimes we cut a bit off the intake side of the piston skirt to increase the intake timing without having to port the intake port.

If I get time today, I'll dig out a couple of my Homelite 30cc engines and take a look. Even a stock Homelite with a decent carb and free flowing exhaust should turn better numbers than you guys are getting... Hell, my lowly Ryobi 31cc turns an 18 x 6 prop at over 8000 rpms, and my hopped up Homey 30cc turns an APC 16 x 8 at 9400 rpms. (All on a high quality TNC tach.)

That 16x8 prop is not even enough load for a DLE30....park the Hommie when it comes to power. Capt,n

Whatever you say Captain John... That 10 dollar Homelite 30 flies the hell out of my 15 lb. Giles 202, and has given me many hours of pure, reliable fun.

How does one look up parts on that Gardner Inc. site? I didn't have any luck.

I was just kidding you a bit...I know you do port work & know carbs....ect. I wish I was closer so we could fly together. Kinda a long drive from here. I bet it is fairly good weather where you at to fly....without freezing to death. PS I sure got a kick out of that photo with your daughter holding a engine. Looks like she really digs the Airplanes & engines. That is truly great. Enjoy the little ones while they are still little!

Best Regards, Capt,n john from the Frozen North!

Thanks Captain John. Here's a couple more of her. One with my latest twin, and one as "Machinist's Mate" cleaning up my messy shop.

That twin honks! I used 25cc cranks, and ported it, etc. 8000 rpms on a 20 x 8 prop after only two tanks of fuel!

The Top Flite was the only thing I had laying around in that size to test run it. Well, I might have a Zinger, but that's no better...

To look at a Top Flite and a standard Zinger the Top Flight looks like it would be a decent prop.

But up in the 18" or so sizes one doesn't run any better than the other

Don't forget that some of the pylon guys like the Zingers in the high pitch sizes.

Tower hasn't had Top Flite props available in a year.
