RE: Been quiet on the ole conversion board..
I think it has been slow because of the time of year also. This time of year there are so many things to catch up on. We also had some pretty bad weather in many parts of the country that is causing a extra workload. Hope things get better for us all. Capt,n

RE: Been quiet on the ole conversion board..
I'm slow on my conversions because all of my cars are having problems... the justy blew up, explorer's having mixture issues, lincoln that I want to get rid of has too many issues to get what I want out of it, my play truck has bad brakes, power steering is going out, heater box just melted to the turbo housing (have a full drivetrain swap almost ready)
I've got lots of plans and engines in the works, but I've only been flying like once this year so far, and it was just a tower trainer...

Go to www.agaperacingandhobby.com for ignition systems cheap and plug adapters also.

RE: Been quiet on the ole conversion board..
Man, I need to find the time to finish some projects. Got too many going at one time. I have another BME twin that I am doing with 25cc crankshafts. It is mostly done; just need to finish "massaging" the top of one piston for fit, do final assembly, and then put the ignition on, etc. Then I have a cute little Mac 21cc apart and partly converted, a Stihl 25.4cc apart and partly converted, a Echo 62cc twin disassembled, and another BME twin I am doing for a customer. Too many projects going at once, and very little time to work on them!!
Got a glow Mustang all finished and test flown. Now I want to build a large "Sportster" style gasoline plane for a "knock around" fun flyer. I am building/bashing it out of an old Big Stik kit my brother started and never finished.

Everyone is broke and have no money for toys, until the past year I've always had at least one engine on the bench. Have't seen anything new in almost a year. The work I do for others funds my projects, so my projects are on hold indefinately.[&o]

I hear that, I just have to do a little at a time as I can find a few bucks. I have been working on an Echo 610cc twin for a while. If you would like to see the progress on it you will need to open my profile and look in my gallery.

Oldtimer2 That sure is a very nice looking plane you are building. I wish I could do work like that. The twin cyl engine looks like it is going to be a very nice running powerplant for sure.

RE: Been quiet on the ole conversion board..
I picked an engine out of the trash heap that is real interesting. It is in the neighborhood of 40 cc, bearings on both side of the crank, all roller bearings, and the mag is shot. The crank extensds on both sides, but one side is small and week and unusable. The other side
which is the flywheel side will take a hub very nicely and I have produced a hub for it. The only problem is that the intake is on the prop side of the engine. I am wondering what effect if any will this have on preformance. Is it a possibility that this might act a supercharger as the RPM increases. Has anyone had any experience with this set-up? I am kinda tied up at present getting the yard and garden in shape for the summer, but will be back working on it is a couple weeks. Thanks for any info. Flathead 4

I have a 32cc Mac saw engine that is setup as you described. I ran it once and with a 18" prop, it turned 7500 rpm top end. On the bottom end opposite the jug was an oiler and it was crankcase pulse operated. I had to plug the pulse hole with a bolt, but other than that it ran fine. It had a rear exhaust with a small muffler which I gutted and used.
I can post a picture of it if you need one.

yep, I was just going to say it sounded like a '80's mac saw engine but you beat me to it... they are around 35cc usually but there's a few different sizes I guess, I've got 3 or 4 of the things.

I am not sure of the exact reasons, but I have heard that front carb engines suffer by comparison to side or rear carb ones. I think the carbs do not care for ram air. This setup may be a candidate for one of Toni Clarks right angle carb adapters. Good luck

if it is one of the Mac engines the carb is rubber mounted (if I'm remembering right) so the angle would be as simple as a formed hose, but the main problem with the carbs mounted there is the metering diaphram balance hole on the carb being in air flow, it needs a smooth/consistant source

Use a carb with an 11mm venturi. The Zama carbs fit the Super Tiger .90 conversion a bit better than the Walbros because they are a bit smaller physically, but a Walbro will fit. You might have to grind down one of the regulator cover screws. The regulator cover should go towards the engine, not towards the prop.

I have a Zama on a Weedeater, how do I tell what Walbro would be equal or better than the Zama? Or are they even physically interchangeable? Thanks

RE: Been quiet on the ole conversion board..
Try to find the number on the Zama that you might can reference ion Google. Or maybe just measure the venturi?
Tell us about the size of the weed whacker and there'll be ten of us telling you what walbro to use.
On the 25 -30 cc whackers the 11.11 mm (28) Walbro is what everyone uses and the most famous of these is the WA-167-1. Another was the WT-499-1
The 25 to 30 engines mostly came with a 5/16" venturi carb. The Zama was more common on these than the Walbro.
A 30 - 33 cc chain saw often has a Zama that is 7/16" venturi that would work great on most weed whackers.
You have to have both a low speed and high speed needle valve.

RE: Been quiet on the ole conversion board..
for rebuild kits I just got my order from cheaponlineparts.com I'd used them about a year ago and they were about 2/3 the price then (or 3/4) but since I've never gotten a rebuild kit for a zama I got a few (I have too many of the carbs that aren't usable because of bad diaphrams to not have parts around). Their part number ROT9199 is the most common weedie kit and is $5.29. walbro kit for $4.79, just the metering diaphragm for walbro is $3.52 (that's about all that goes bad on many engines, so I grabbed a handful)
