Homelite 30cc Break In?
 

How much break in should a Homelite 30cc require
before seeing normal throttle response and decent idle?

I don't know who this knowledgable fellow is,
but here's a tip of the hat to all the tired old men
who so unselfishly share their experience and expertise.

You can absolutely and without doubt trust anything "TIRED OLD MAN" says. He has probably more experience on a professional level than all of us put together.

Having said that, I do sometimes throw a new engine on the test stand for just one tank of fuel to get it sorted and give it one heat soak. Many engines "loosen up" and start to seat the ring quite a bit during that first tank. Plus, if you happen to find something wrong, it's a lot easier to deal with than having the engine on the airplane.

Plus I find it much easier to set the timing and set the mixtures standing up with the engine on my test stand rather than bending over the plane. My back is trashed enough as it is!!

I'm just glad to help. Various forums have helped me with much needed info over the years. They can be a great resource, but you have to be careful. Some of the online "experts" are anything but!

What are you going to put it in? I seem to remember you were using a 16 x 6 prop correct? You might experiment with an 18 x 6 and an 18 x 8 prop. That's a more common size for this engine and you might like it. The 18" prop will provide MUCH more static thrust, and you can choose the pitch depending on the plane and whether you want more speed, or more acceleration/climb. Also, if you were experiencing mid range "burbling", the larger prop will help with that.

Yes! Although since I had no prior experience with gasoline conversions or rebuilding Walbro carburetors,I was not very confident in the outcome.

In fact, when the engine first started my reaction was "What's that noise?"
