Carb For Homelite 45cc
 

I'm looking to replace the carb on my Homelite 45cc because I just can't get a good, consistent idle on it. It loads up and if I lean it, then it takes a while for the idle to come down. Tough to land a Christen Eagle with that kind of problem. I used to have a carb off a G38 on it, and it worked pretty good, but it had to go back on the G38 for another plane. Does anyone know which of the following carbs is the best selection for this engine?

The current G38 comes with a WT-338 It has a 17/32" venturi and has a little "34" cast inside the carb inlet.

If you have a engine that begins at a fast idle and slows down after idling a short time, the low speed needle is too rich.

Turn your idle mixture screw in and see if it runs faster?

Then, you will have to run your trim down.

Keep checking your high speed mixture. The two needles are interelated and will effect each other.

Keep checking the transition from idle to high speed.

When you get it to the point where it wants to lean out and quit when you give it the gas, you are too lean. Richen it back up to the point where you get a good transition.

The WT-542 & WT-610 carbs are obsolete and have been replaced by the WT-660.

The WT-414 & WT-536 are current models

Look in the inlet of these carbs for the little number that's in there. It should be a number between 27 and 34?

The bigger the number the bigger the carb. But bigger than 34 is probably too big for you? Below 27 will be too small.

According to what I've found looking around is that the original carb on the 45 was a 28 which seems small to me?

The original carb on a Poulan 46 was a 32? But all I've actually seen on these engines were Zama carbs.

The old style Zenoah G38 had a 28 carb on it but that carb is obsolete.

The WT338 on the newer G38s is slightly larger and now has a choke..The old WTA 6 had no choke but always seemed to work better for me..Walbro no longer makes the WTA6, wish they did...[&o]
Carbs don't get obselete, the manufacturer changes the application...When the demand is gone, so are the carbs..The newer EPA friendly carbs are no better than the old ones, sometimes worse...Thank your tree friendly huggers, The California Air Resources Board...They think two strokes are killing the atmosphere....:D
