RE: don't forget echo!

if you're really going for weight loss, after you cut the end off of the crankshaft, drill a hole in it not deep enough to go through the other side, and leave about an 1/8" wall thickness... can't hurt anything

AV8TOR Neat idea. How much of the crank do you figure you off additional if it has already been trimmed to the outside of the seal? I'll keep that in mind when I get back to the Zenoah from parts project. Trading some aluminum for steel is a lightening idea! :)

Just measure the width of the bearing, and cut the crank so that it has that much, or a touch less sticking out to penetrate the bearing.

Denningpat, heres what the echo "E" looks like.its on the base of the cylinder under the exhaust. It should also be on the back of the case somwhere around the pull start housing.most echos have 2 rings but not all.The one in the pic is a 16 or 18cc but only has one ring but it still has the E even though its old.If yours doesnt have the E i think it might be a shindaiwa or a mc'cullah. It really doesnt matter if your not going to do 3D anywway. It will more than likly fly any high wing airplane with at least 1000 sq inches of wing area in the 72-80 inch size very scale like.Youll get excellent fuel savings from glow and youll be able to use about an 6-8 oz tank.Im planning on putting my echo 17cc or my 23.6cc on my spook.(96)ws.1344 sq in wa.only weighs about 7.5 lbs empty.
Thanks for the info you guys have been real helpful. Has anyone converted one of these? I'll make sure and post outside of the Echo thread next time. Time to start converting.
