Default The *NEW* Honey Bee King VER 2 A Dream Machine

I received my new Honey Bee King with the belt drive today.
This was a 100% out of the box RTF.
I had to do nothing and made a short indoor flight.
I did want to go to the right even with the trim set as far back as it could go but I gave the one control linkage 2 turns while the battery was on charge and that took care of it.
This Heli was $149.99 + 11.00 for shipping.
All I have is just a slight head wobble when starting to spool up to fast with the pitch set at MAX.
But I never removed the blades so they may be out of balance or the CG is off.
I double checked the tracking with a strobe light and the blades are right on.
I don't remember how I got Jim's site but i'm glad I got it because it saved me $50.00 and perhaps a few more dollars for shipping.
As for Jim,
All E mail and phone call communications were excellent.
He sent me mail telling me when the box went out and if you look at the site he has
~~~>If, for any reason , you are not satisfied with any item purchased from JAG Hobbies, we will gladly give a total refund of the purchase price (including shipping charges in some cases) or exchange the item for another.
-----------------------------------------------------
You won't find to many small vendors offering that kind of guarantee.
Getting back to the Honey Bee King VER 2 it's got to be the smoothest running heli I ever flew.
I held it in the palm of my hand and just pulled my hand away and it sort of did a little,(very little) dance but never drifted to the point where I had to make slider or stick changes to the heli.
Not bad for $149.99 HUH??
I'm new to electric and gas helis but having worked on cruse missiles and flying real rotor craft I thing I qualify to distinguish between a cheap priced good quality helis and a cheap low quality helis.
Even another Vendor told me to stay away from the CP-2 that Honey Bee makes.
I also read the forums a lot and i'm reading to much about burned out tail motors, stripped gears and crashes.
If your low on funds and need a good low priced heli that performs then I would suggest getting the Honey Bee King VER # 2.
It's got to be the best it it's class of other helis.
I'm not putting the Falcon down because I have two of them myself but this new Honey Bee King VER # 2 has a much studry,thicker plastic that is used for the canopy.
Jim already has just about every spare part you may need.
If I flew this the very first time then any newbie can
One more thing,
This heli comes with a very well detailed 28 page manual and worded much better then the early standard HBK.
Guaranteed you'll love it.
All I needed to do was make 1 slight adjustment on the linkage because when the slider was centered it wanted to tilt left.
After that I pulled it straight up and hoovered inside the room here.
I never took the blades off to see if the CG was on but they are in track as well as the small paddles.
Next weel i'll have another one on the way.
Keep me posted.
Ok Whirly Bird... so I read your post on the honeybee king. I picked up the esky honeybee 4 channel about a year ago and have mastered it. Im just wondering if I should get the cp2 or take the step up to the King. Also what are the main differences between the cp2 and the king.
I don't know the difference between the CP-2 and the VER # 2 HBK but Larry at Heli direct.com told me the CP-2 was on sale for $188.99 but told me the VER # 2 was a much better heli and has a belt drive.
I think the CP-2 has a motor for the tail rotor.
I put carbon blades on the Honey Bee tonight.
They look to big in the picture but it look much better then the white blades.
I also put carbon blades on the tail and I still have to put the carbon paddles on.
It's easy to fly and I fly it much more then the Falcon.
Both Falcons here are collecting dust.[sm=sad_smile.gif]
For $149.00 + shipping you can't go wrong with the HBK
How is this bird different than Falcon 3D, speed, size, mobility etc... I'm curious.
It does 3D with no problem but that is't why I have it.
The falcon in a bit bigger,has a bit more weight and a brushless motor but parts for the falcon cost more.
I ordered the second one and it came today today and just putting on the carbon blades.
The wood blades are fine but I was given several sets of carbon blades.
The rotor and paddles are sort of a cheaper plastic so I changed them.
It flies well and even the one that arrived today was just a bit out of track on the blades but they go in track when you increase the pitch for lift.
Everyone is out of them now so you'll have tpo wait.
How did you make the adjustment to the linkage? Was it difficult?
All I did was just pop of the link and I think I just gave 1 turn to the right to shorten it.
So far I have no problems and it flies very smooth
I think the T/rex is an over rated heli but if you want something close to that then go with the Falcon
I think www.ka-plains.com has the lowest prices for the Falcon at this time
Hi everyon., Just recieved my HB Kiang II today It is quite the piece of work. I am new to electric helis so may be you might advise me the battery that came with heli only lasts about ten to twelve minutes and when itno longer runs motor there is still 9.5 volts left in it is this normal. will a 11.1 1800last any longer and will it fitr in this heli. any replies would be appreciated. it isnt to easy keeping it in one place while hovering it takes some rough landings quite well with no damage to heli yet did break set of training gear though. great little heli.
you're runnin the pack to low =( your OC voltage after flying should be right around 10.5 to 11.1, 9.5 is way low. Remember the 3v per cell is under a load, not OC
I will chime in here, after mastering the CX2 went to the blade CP and CP Pro. Biggest mistake I made after a ton of money to make my pro fly great I decided I wanted the smaller belted Helo. I got a brushless HBK2 and love this thing so far! It flew way better right off the bat than the stock blade cps. For the price this is a very nice helo even with the stock transmitter, course putting on the spectrum makes it even better. I have a Trex but really like flying this bird!
Take the time to set up and adjust and RTF helicopter before you fly it - it never comes out of the box really ready to fly! Some vendors (mostly the smaller ones, like the one I reference below) may do this set up for you - if you ask them to. The HBK2 is a very capable helicopter when properly set up and maybe with the addition of a few upgrades. Many of the standard upgrades that everyone "has to do" to the King2 are already included in the Honeybee King3 - so you may want to take a lok at that.
Now about the brushed motor: No, on the King2 you will need to upgrade to a brushless motor within 5 to 10 flights - as the stock brushed motor is under powered and will literally melt down. Better to do this before the helicopter falls from the sky in flames! You will need a brushless motor (like the Esky 3900kv $25), a bigger and better ESC (like the HobbyWing Pentium 25A for $29), a bigger battery (like the Esky High-Discharge 1800mah for $39), and a bigger battery charger (like the Aling RCC-3CX for $43. The stock charger will take forever to charge bigger batteries). I got all of these supplies at U.S. Hobby Supply ( http://www.ushobbysupply.com/ ). You can also contact Michael, the president from that web site if you have specific questions. You can't go wrong buying from U.S. Hobby Supply!
Hope this helps!
I just received the Honey Been King 2 today. Very nice. One question though. I'm really not new to flying helicopters, but something disturbs me. When charging this battery for the first time, the green light blinked for 2 hours, finally, I decided it best to take it off charge. I only got about 4 minutes of flight before it headed south.
Now, the next charge......I'm still charging it, it's been over an hour, and it's still blinking as if it's still charging. Something isn't right.
Anyone have the same???
The stock charger just isn't very powerful - so it takes a while. I'd leave the battery on charge until the lights tell you it's done... When you eventually get to bigger batteries (that you will need when you upgrade the motor to a brushless one and get a better speed controller), you will need a better charger - like this one: https://www.ushobbysupply.com/produc...63020130d54fb0 It works much better than the stock charger!
In general, most of the stock electronics that come with the HBK2 are not the best and should be eventually upgraded.
Cheers,
Dave
