RE: Heli lights
ask crashcrash, his huey looks like a christmas tree. i'm planning on putting some one mine too but will probably build something as opposed to buying something. the heli specific stuff is relatively expensive considering it's really just a voltage regulator and a couple of leds.

RE: Heli lights
I'd probably just want to do one light in the front of the canopy.
Or two at best. One red and one green on each side of the
canopy. No more than that.

try these from [link=http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=4538]helidirect[/link]
if you're looking for a spotlight I think some are used on rc boats.

RE: Heli lights
high flyer 777, Besides my Li-Po alarm green lights lol.. I was looking for a way to keep better orientation when flying further out and in high bank turns and was looking for a single bright LED tail light for my King2. I ripped apart a $2 LED pen light, put the button cells together on the frame, put a slide switch in-line, ran the thin wire to the back tail fin and secured the LED to the top of the tail fin. It works great and can be seen from behind and from the sides, but not the front so it's not blinding me during nose in hovering. These pics aren't great, but will at least let ya see what I mean. You can find some cool stuff at the dollar store. I found a motion activated cat toy that has 3 LED lights. Gonna tinker with that as well. If you like to tinker with LED's and stuff, these places have some great prices: http://www.goldmine-elec-products.co....asp?dept=1088 http://www.dollarrcparts.com/connectors.html Steve

RE: Heli lights
Here's what I'm using and have been pleased so far:
http://www.tinybritelights.com/
I have a set on my Blade CX-2 and a set waiting for installation on my soon to be ready Honey Bee King-II
They are very small, extremely bright and plug into a spare RX channel on the receiver so no separate battery is needed.
The company is actually working on more configurations for different type models.

RE: Heli lights
There are a quite a few places that carry the ones that plug into spare RX channel - if you have a spare. These are $15..you could color them with a sharpie and link in a few more LED's to it for those that like that UFO effect (it would only dim the LED's a bit). The International shipping is cheap, but they are still $10 over what I wanna pay for em for what they consist of. http://www.dimensionengineering.com/EasyLights.htm

RE: Heli lights
Now is the time of year to stock up on LED'S as the shops are full of cheap Xmas lights. Here in UK i get all my LED'S from a national electrical store called Maplins (you guys must have something similar), they are less than $1.50 each, various colours, shapes, just remember to solder in a voltage regulator to stop the bulb blowing, about $1.00 each, and a couple of JST connectors to either plug straight into the rx, or wire in another way. Some people use a direct power source, like a tiny lipo found in the likes of a piccoz etc. Have a look for ideas www.maplin.co.uk (I think!)

RE: Heli lights
I've got a bunch of old led fans from my computers and i'll just strip the leds out, connect them to a voltage regulator and plug them into receiver.

RE: Heli lights
Can you think of any brand of heli's that have one or two lights
stock on the machine that possibly could be purchased as a
replacement part?

Here is the kit I put on my CX2, I'm now going to move it over to my #4.

Not sure how I'm going to switch the landing light without the 5th channel on the 4in1.

RE: Heli lights
If you go to radio shack you can get a high intense flasher for 3 bucks you'll need a 33 ohm resistor (don't remember the volts). Just get some servo wire and servo plugs and solider that puppy together. Worked good on the CX2 but I figure the Ohm Volts would need to be more for the BELT CP.

RE: Heli lights
I just remembered I have a couple of the "toy type"
indoor heli's packed away in my closet. Some of them
have a single light on them. I could probably take one
of those lights to use on one of my 4 or 6 channel
heil's.
What would be the best way to install the wire for
power?

Lo and behold I go to the mail box today and
there's my March 2008 issue of Backyard Flyer
magazine and there's an article on Installing
lightweight lighting systems for planes & heli's.

RE: Heli lights
The more I think about having lights, the better I like
the idea. 1-2 hours before sunset is my favorite time
to fly and end the day. The closer to sunset, the less
light and I do have to crank up my orientation in my
brain more.

Here's what I'm using and have been pleased so far:

I have a set on my Blade CX-2 and a set waiting for installation on my soon to be ready Honey Bee King-II
They are very small, extremely bright and plug into a spare RX channel on the receiver so no separate battery is needed.
The company is actually working on more configurations for different type models.

Looks awesome...
Do you think that this one could also fit my HoneyBee FP and its "4 in 1" ?
Do I need to buy some special connector to be able to connect it to the receiver free port?
Thanks!

RE: Heli lights
Yep those tinybritelites look awesome. I was wondering if they
could be hooked in too. I haven't looked at he receiver yet.
Either that or a Y-harness maybe?

RE: Heli lights
The Blade CX-2 has a 5 channel 2.4Ghz AR6100e Spectrum receiver. The tinybritelights lights just plug into the extra channel on the receiver.
I don't know what the original Blade CX has for a receiver. If it's got an open channel then you're in business.
I like them so much I bought a second set to put on my Honey Bee King-II heli.
