Default Looking

Was looking at this and wanted some info.. Is this a good barebone? What elec. would I need to get it in the air?

http://www.xheli.com/18h32-arf-exi-450le.html

I'm thinking about just getting a barebone and getting the dx6i for now instead of going with an RTF. I do want it to be bigger then my CX2 so I have good outside flying. Do not want a Trex or other that cost thousands to fly. Thought about the blade 400 but think it would be funner to build myself...
I know the rep xheli has just using the page for pics...lol

I have the $99 dollar EXI and it is pretty nice. Not fancy, but it flies great.

You will have to get that from xHeli. No one else has EXIs, as far as I know.

I would suggest buying one of the ones that is a direct trex clone. Who knows where to get replacement parts for that frame?

Hey,

I agree with Eater...Buy the $99.00 version, I believe it is 99% compatible with the 450 v2, don't know about the one you linked to?..Here is the link to the EXI thread if you need inspiration->>>>[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7926752/tm.htm]EXI thread on RCU[/link]. This is a great little thread of mods and flying tips. CrashCrash is the man with a plan and started the thread(other notables include our own Dumb Dawg and lohchief), he is one of my personal heli hero's.

If you buy the EXI, Trex or other clones you can shoot over to Helifreak and learn everything you need to learn via Video Tutorials. Bob Finless does the videos and they are excellent!! Here's the link->[link=http://helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=41692]Bob Finless tech Vids[/link]...You could easily spend 3 days or longer watching videos, all invaluable...I do not think there is a question unanswered on the Trex...He does not like Esky heli's so he won't do a video on them....I asked[].

Good luck, and may your bank account "hover" above the limit![sm=greedy.gif]

Thanks for the help guys. I'm so back and forth with what one is great on a budget..lol
Belt CP RTF. Hear some great things but then hear somethings that make me think that it would be a waste.
EXI. It sounds good and cheap but I heard that all the parts you need to get are not for a cheap budget..

Then I go to my LHS today and he had a Belt cp and a Blade 400 sitting there waiting for me..lol
Both made me drool. But I do like that the 400 has the DX6i But the cost... man
What to do...

Here's a rundown of my costs including shipping, not including RX.

EXI $69
Suppo motor $16
Hobbywing 40A ESC $35
Telebee gyro $45
3X HXT900 servo $15
Futaba 3114 tail servo $15

$195 for a pretty decent 450. It's frickin fast too. I need to get the headspeed down a little, lol.

For comparison I spent:

EXI $99
Hyperion Motor $39
Dynam 40A: $29
Telebee Gyro $47
4x HS65HB $92

$306....I skimped on the servos with my King so I went with the shiznit for the EXI....The gyro and motor was from my King. Logiictech2100 Gyro will be purchased for the EXI so the King can have her Gyro back. I have plenty of motor to choose from...

You can see where to save a little or splurge!!

I saw Zims EXI heli and was impressed by it for the price I don't think you can go wrong and one of the guys in our LHS hobby shop who is a big Trex fan was even impressed with its flying (he did hate the Telebee gyro though).
Nearly everything excluding the frame is interchangeable between the Trex 450 and the EXI.
I would put it together the way Eaterof dog has his.
Zim as a lot of money to burn on toys and tends to see if he can solely support severa of our local LHS by himself.

You're looking at more than $400 by the time you get a few lipos and a charger. It's just the minimal startup cost with 450 size. I think you are doing the right thing, the 450 class is a nice balance between size and expense.

IMO... you can build the EXI and get a DX6i Tx for under $400 and have a decent 450 Heli. Either way will get you in the air but you'll have to decide which will be the most enjoyable part for you. Personally... I like building and piecing together my own heli's... The King 2 taught me tons and now I understand how heli's work much more. That and Finless vids... oh.. and the others that have shared tips, tricks and tears.... I should be a poet!!! LOL

Of course this is just my ever so humble opinion, which BTW is copyrighted and ur not allowed to use this without my concent or cheque for $200... send money!! L)

Maybe but this is how I add it up.

Radio = $200
Servos (4) = $50
EXI = $100
Gyro = $50
Motor / ESC = $50
Batt (2) = $50
Charger = $25

Total $525 ish

I flew my EXI for the first time tonight. Wow! Its worth it!

First thing is to wait and see if the EXI goes on sale for Turkey Day!!! That will save you 20-30 bucks right there. Anything over $50 and shipping is free with a code. CJFREE2 is the code I used and it worked dandy.

It's a pity, but the DX6i has gone way up in price. I bought mine for $169.99 when everywhere else sold them for $179.99. Now it seems that they are all priced at $199.99...Even my LHS jacked their price to $199.99..What gives? Maybe they figured that they were selling do many that they would gouge a little? Horizon Hobby, pffft, come on men.....

Check out cnchelicopter.com for good prices on motors, Hobbywing ESC's and $47 Telebee Gyro(best cheap HH you can get unless you can spend $104 on a Logictech?). Dumb Dawg uses the GL motor and says it is kickin'. I have 2 motors from them, Sonix and Zoom-Zap and they are powerful but not as efficient as my Hyperion..He has other cool stuff as well..

Good luck..

U. S. Hobby Supply still has the Dx6i for $179 - a little up from the $169 "sale" price that I got mine at too... Well worth it at either price! Here's the link: http://www.ushobbysupply.com/product...63020130d54fb0

Cheers,

The DX6i includes an AR6200 RX, so you can scratch off the 6100.

You will need a higher rated ESC. 30A won't cut it, especially a low end one. Don't catch your EXI on fire.

There are a lot of decent motors out there for $25-30.

The EXI comes with linkages, screws etc etc... I bought a Mystery 4200Kv/Emax40A combo about 4 months ago for around $32 if I remember right... I got 6 TowerPro sg90s for $30 and a few other odds and ends I buy fairly often. Some stuff like the TowerPros may not be the best but they will work until you can afford something better. Thats the way I guy anyway... Get whats reasonably a good component for what I can afford and buy something better when I can afford it...

hope this helps in some way...

Get the HXT900s from hobby city for the cyclic. They are a more powerful version of the SG90s. $15 for 3.

Buy a better servo for the tail, like the Futaba 3114. $15 Cheap servos will just burn out from the nonstop activity.

r2hobbies has the GY400 HH gyro for $20. Word is this is a decent little gyro.
