The Fokker Dr.I collection of the museum may be the largest number of “Dreidecker” (meaning three wings) replicas in one place in the U.S., with four examples.
The Dr. is perhaps the most recognizable aircraft of the ‘Great War’. Developed as a response to the British Sopwith Triplane.

The blue and yellow Fokker represents Lieutenant Werner Voss of Jasta 11 who shot down ten opponents in six days of combat. Voss was an “ace”, with 48 victories when he was killed at the age of 19 in a legendary dogfight against at least four British aces.

The red and white Fokker represents Lieutenant August Raben, who commanded Jasta 18. They were then called “Staffel Raben” and sported a raven image on their planes.

3 Fokker D-7 Flying Replica. 1:1 Scale

First built in 1917, the D.VII won out over all other designs in a competition, with the final production version winning high praise from no less an authority than Manfred von Richthofen. The D.VII was so superior that the Versailles treaty specified that they were all to be destroyed or given to the Allies. Production 3,200 (approx.) Max Airspeed 116 mph, Ceiling 19,600

Albatros D.Va Flying Replica. 80% Scale
By 1917, earlier versions of the series were being outclassed, and the D.V was delivered in May of 1917.
The German Air Force had no suitable replacement for the Albatros until the Fokker D.VII entered service, so despite the well-known limitations of the Type, the D.Va saw service through the end of the war. Airspeed 187 mph, Ceiling 18,045feet,

Sopwith “1 1/2 Strutter” 1:1 Scale.
The Sopwith 1½ Strutter , first flown in 1915, was a ‘Great War’ multi-role biplane with either one or two seats. It was the first British fighter to enter service with a synchronized machine gun, and it’s forward-firing Vickers and movable Lewis gun in the rear packed a considerable wallop.
The Strutter was the first Sopwith to make a resounding name for itself. First flown in 1915 and introduced in 1916, Sopwith could not build enough of them and production was contracted from two other firms.

It was the first USN aircraft to operate from a carrier. The RNAS called it the “Ships’ Strutter” in service from naval vessels.
The Strutter was too large and stable to be an effective in combat, and the type was replaced fairly quickly in that role by the Sopwith Pup.
The plane flew in the 2006 movie “Flyboys” with a different paint job than she now wears. Production 5,939, Max. airspeed 100 mph, Ceiling 15,500 feet

Nieuport 11 “babe” Flying Replica. 80% scale

The Nieuport model 11 was a French biplane of the ‘Great War’, most often referred to as the “bebe” or the Nieuport Scout. It is famous as one of the aircraft that put an end to the first “Fokker scourge” by putting more formidable planes in the sky against the Germans.
The type reached the French front in 1916, and 90 were placed in service within a month. During the course of the Battle of Verdun in February of that year, the Nieuport 11 inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy,.
