More Nieuports. These at both Lars if I recall. He brought three planes.
Lars Hansson: (Chesapeake Flyers) with British SE-5a, 1/6 scale ,ARF, OS 40, a Neiuport 28, 1/4 scale, Balsa USA kit with a Zenoah G-23 and a Nieuport 17 1/4 scale, Balsa USA kit and G23.
The N-28 in flight is one of my favorite pics in this years photo's.

Another legend is airborne. No not Herman Goering but Sal Calvagna came down from New York and laid it on thick. Yes pun intended!
Hal flew with two others in the halftime show and all three laid down thick smoke for about 1000-1500 spectators. I continue to enjoy Sal's articles in Model Aviation magazine.

So many pictures but what you need is to get the video version.
Scott Stauffler from SKS Video provides the best in RC Videos across the country. This is his 20th year of covering R/C events. He and his team were onsite throughout the event and did many a pilot interview of new airplanes and filmed so many great R/C flying models. On airshow day he also got great footage from across the active runway, back towards the museum and full scale in the sunlight and from on top of the Museums roof. Those clips will also be in the CD but if you buy the Blue Ray version, you get mnore bonus material.
Some TRC members made the CD so be sure to buy a copy of MAD 2014 when it hits the Internet! http://www.sksvideo.com

There were lots of 1/3 scale Sopwith Pups this year. Her is John Romeo, from Georgia, flying his Kiwi paint scheme. If I recall correctly, the various bright stripes allowed others to see this student flying airplane.
John is no student and flew his Pup very realistically.

Actually we had two great flying captured Pups, Black Tulip. Mike Worthman came up from Tennessee with his 1/3 BUSA, Zenoah GT-80 twin and another guy who I will edit with his name. These pups looked identical except for smoke and under wing colors.

Speaking of Pups, here is my new 1/3 BUSA Pup, FPE 4.2 and 40 lbs. Already repaired from a previous shoot down by Fokker's into a corn field. It actually lost its elev servo horn. I now use silicon glue to set those screws. I also added four Cooper bombs to the bottom fuse so I could do something exciting for the kids, year that's it for the kids . . . In me.

As usual Art was helping me fly some good looking Dogfight circles. Well we took of together, flew some circles and then mixed it up with rolls, (him) and loops by both of us. What fun and it looked good. Art flew combatant at halftime show with another Nieuport, the green dragon one.

Seams like this year marked the rise of the D-VIII. We had seven (7). 1/3 scale Fokker D-VIII or (EV) razor's all scratch built from either Ron Weiss or GTM plans.
Mike Gross from NY (black/yellow stripes, and Rod (or Ron) from Florida ( a nice Moki powered one in the black/ yellow check fuse and green wings. Man could he get that bird up quick.
Dave Perrone came down from Massachusetts with his award winning 3rd scale GTM Fokker D8. It weighs in at 30lbs and sports an electric engine for power and had the white snake on the fuse.
Rebel Flyer( Kurt) and Cal made the drive from Minnesota to fly. His razer was classical lazonge, G62 powered and had the white rubber wheels. Nice flyer.
"Stuka Barry" Herthum brought his Red razer (GTM kit) and Zenoah GT-80 from NC
Andy Hellman ( white fuse, green cowl) with ZDZ-80 from Virginia Beach.
Mine is the blue fuse with white trident and black stripes ( Jasat6) and featured oak vaneer sheeted and stained wings, just like the full scale. g-62 up front.
A couple of times we had a four ship flight together and again for the halftime show had 4 D-VIIIs all flying fast!

Andy Hellman, a local TRC flyer also had a brand new BUSA 1/4 scale De Havilland DH-4, 127” WS & DLE 55. He worked very hard and overcame engine problems to make the event. Andy also had the rear gunner servo control to swing left or right in flight. Finally he added 4 bombs to the wings. together with my Pup we drop four bombs apiece during the halftime R/C show to demonstrate the ground support and bombing roles of WW-I aircraft.

Balsa USA: BUSA spent the week at MAD 2014 with Dave Lewis, current owner and long-time kit designer, and Chad flying several BUSA models (Spad, Pup, etc) and after hours their Stingray kit. His onsite sales was excellent for many a modeler as he would generously explain kits or parts or accessories to all. We had a great time talking WW-1 planes with him throughout the entire event.
Dave also donated a major prize with a certificate for a BUSA kit (except the ALBI). Be sure to visit the website at: http://www.balsausa.com/ as there ar many great flying kits that you could easily have ready for MAD 2015!
Here is the BUSA kit winner being presented by MAD 2014 Contest Director Mark Ward.

Keith Goff from Mcdonough Georgia brought a 1/3 scale 1911 Avro D, 124" w/s scratch built, DLE 55. This plane flies well but the 5-10 kts winds each day kept Keith grounded. His attention to orig construction detail was superb as well as the engine and cockpit area. a true masterpiece, including the passenger holding her red hat.

But wait, Glenn Torrance also presented The “Best Allied Powers” award to Keith Goff for his immaculate hand crafted 27% scale Curtiss Jenny JN4. This gorgeous and expertly weathered model had a 150” wingspan and flew ever so realistic, on a G-62 for power, Saturday morning under his piloting control.
A silver cup trophy and $200 was presented by Scott Vickery ( contest director) and Glenn, but Keith was already on his way home. thanks for coming and see you at Southern Dawn Patrol in early December. I believe John Mueller is again CD. He is even in the attachment holding Keith's Jenny.

But the Jenny's just kept getting bigger. Ill let the pics talk as to the largest model flown many times and during the halftime show for about 1500 people. Keith Zimmerly 1/2 scale Curtiss Jenny at about 20 ft with a DA-150 engine.
