Default Pure Diethyl Ether for sale

I think this is what we need.

I will call them monday. I heard you might need to sign a letter of intent.

They sell it in 500ml brushed aluminum cans. In 1, 2 or 4 qty.

Anhydrus just means no water in it.

US $60 a litre? [the url states $120 for 4x 500ml] That's highway robbery people-that's NOT a bargain! Even in NZ we're only paying NZ $30 a litre-about US$25. And then there will be the freight on top.........

Time to inject a bit of reality..................

Just for comparison, in the UK it can be had for £11 (18$) per litre, collection only.

Yes but it's Reagent Grade not the Solvent (Technical Grade?} we get for AUD20 a Litre.

But has anyone factored in the shipping charges as well as the hazardous materials surcharge too?
As I remember it, one has to almost sign their lives away to get ether here in the USA. I am surprised they don't require a background check like they do for firearms too. Because of the red tape, the distributors don't usually sell to individuals.

Sooooo....John Deere starter fluid sure does stay as the most attractive way to get ether without the added expense or red tape.

.and that's ALL we need-the cheapest grade is perfectly adequate for our usage-after all we're adulterating it by about 67% in use. There is absolutely no benefit whatsoever accrued by using higher grades of purity for the ether. And just a reminder for those not familiar with chemicals-the grading system goes (from lowest to highest): technical/solvent-reagent grade-analytical grade-spectroscopic/HPLC/nmr grade
[note that these gradings apply to liquids/solvents...........it would be rather pointless marketing a 'solvent' grade solid after all!]

Note added in edit: putting a 'less than' arrow between the grades removed all the other grades for some peculiar reason [in edit mode it still showed up OK] so now replaced with a dash. There is usually a significant jump in price from one grade to the next higher.

I note that the Reagent grade Ether mentioned above from this US source is intended for "wet plate" photography.

This is the "pre-shutter" technology used in the mid to late 1800's using Silver Nitrate, Ether and photographer prepared glass plates.

There was an article in the local newspaper about the discovery of hundreds of such glass plates of historical value discovered in someones shed , now on display.

Exposure times are long and the technique is very complicated to use.

However the images recorded are of excellent resolution with none of the grain of modern techniques, so they're still used in certain scientific fields and by hobbyists.

It seems that this is the market for the Ether on the websites.

It might be worthwhile checking out "wet plate" photography suppliers as an alternative to current supplies.

It might be more expensive, but it's still Ether.

If you check out the JD starter fluid MSDS, it shows 80% ether, rest Liquefied petroleum gas and traces of lubricant. TheLPG part will flash off when the pressure is gone, and leave you with quite pure ether.

i believe that for out of USA customers for his heads that is what Davis suggests for ether ( John Deere ) as stated before the other stuff " starting fluid" in the auto parts stores
and supermarket shelves is low or none for ether content useless ?? for our purpose martin

being in the USA I just buy Davis 1/2A and his ABC fuel a no brainer martin

Martin,
I believe that Davis Diesel fuel has only 30% ether. You will not get the MVVS's full potential if you use less than 40%. The engine will run, and run quite well though, even using 25% ether, but at 40% ether and 2% IPN she comes alive.
Maybe someone can chime in here to provide the Davis concoction %'s

Times like these are where I really like that I can just go to the Toledo Show once a year and buy fuel direct from Eric Clutton....

Really good fuel too.
