Default Taipan Series 12-13 R/C Diesel

I found this in a box of engines that I've inherited.

I'm not quite sure where it fits in the Burford chronology but it doesn't seem to have been run.

There's a lovely bouncy new spare p/l as well. Does anyone know if these Taipan r/c diesels are rare? First one I'm seen with an R/C Throttle and Muffler/Collector ring.

Ray

Maris' book suggests they were never sold ex-factory with an R/C carb.

However a few users bought the Taipan R/C carb for the 'lightning bolt' or 'gold head' glow (not sure which one) as a factory spare, which was a drop-in fit.

That makes sense. I'm told that the particular engine was one of a pair.

I'll put it away, and use the spare p/l to rejuvenate a clapped blackhead Series 13.

My old series 13 had a collector ring and a separate canister muffler back in the day (both genuine parts) but from memory it really killed the performance.
