Engine discussion for today - FROG 2.49BB
I have these old FROGs. I bought one new in about 1958, one from ****, and one at a swap. I have started and ran them on a bench but only had the one I bought new in a plane (Flite Streak Jr. when they were $1.95). It has had a Webra generic needle assembly since mother earth ate the original back in the late 50's. Runs nice but the contra sticks when it heats up.
Someone posted one time that they were prone to split their crankcase due to the very large front bearing.
Anyone else have experience with these engines?
George
P.S. Forgot to mention, all three tommy bars had to be repaired.

I really liked that motor. Had one in the very early 60's and it was a really great runner. Mine unfortunately broke the crankshaft after a fairly hot run. I know that the Frog did have a problem with the crank and the case. Sure wish that I had another one though.

Here's one I picked up for $20 last winter. Sweet little engine. I love the red anodized cylinder muff. You can see in the right view shot that the ear is broken off the rear cover. I've made a billet cover for it so it runs but need to find a cover. I know, Good Luck!
