DeVries VT-1D .061 four stroke diesel
I am happy to report that my new Armin Devries VT-1D 1cc 4-stroke diesel is a winner.
After some running-in, I drove over to show chevy43, RocketRob, and Scallywag my new toy.
This engine is so different from my other diesels and my glow 4 strokes, I am still learning how to start it without taking half an hour!
It runs so well once started that I think the problem is just me. []
If I recall correctly, the rpm were as follows: (using Clutton Olde English fuel)
on an MAS 7x3 prop: 9000 high, 3400 idle (which sounds much lower, being a 4 stroke)
on an MAS 8x3 prop: 8300 high, 2900 idle (or there abouts)
I will be flying this engine before too long, and will post photos when it happens. Meanwhile, here are a few shots of the engine.

Here is a shot of it running, and one of the VT-1D sitting between an OS FS20 four stroke and a Cox .049 for size comparison.

whoops dupe same as above. I did not have time to to play diesel today since I had a visit from the Florida Fish and Game commisson ( my inspection of facility for my wolves Monday)and had to replace the rusted bottom rails of the cage so sawzall and drill time most of the day replacing them martin
Really a nice day in Florida flying my Mini tele with the TT10 conversion would have been more fun

Sorry about the photos, I loaded as per the usual and they came out huge. If you click on them, they shrink, which is backwards. [&o]

I saw DeVries site a couple of years ago when he had the .09 version of the 4 stroke OHV diesel ready for sale. I'm really impressed with his work. I love the variable compression by raising and lowering the crankshaft. Just like on my Telco C02 motor.

Pity these are not to be produced further...
That arm on the front bearing... May I presume that's the compression adjustment? Eccentric bearing to raise and lower the shaft, hence rod and piston, for adjustment?
Cute little gem!

Lou Crane; Yes, that is exactly what the lever does! The running position is in the middle of it's range of movement. It's nice because you always know exactly where the adjustment is at a glance.
I ran the engine again today and can proudly say that I can now start it within seconds. Now it is time to mount it and get this gem into the sky!
Oh, I looked it up and the news is true: DeVries will no longer build this engine.

That really is a shame. He makes many other interesting engines, but this one is my personal favorite.
My engine is number 21. I wonder how many he crafted?

Sad. But that engine would never have fit into my modeling budget anyway. Any extra Euro I have on hand usually get spent on beer, dance clubs, and motor races with my younger German cousins each late spring/early summer.

You know Armin stopped producing that engine this year don't you? I was saving for one for summer time

Who wants to have a VT1-D, can order in advance this engine.
I will be happy when I know, how many engines I must build.

Hello,
I am the son of Armin de Vries.
I am currently developing small four-stroke diesel engines with my father. At the moment it is a 0.24cui (4ccm radial engine). The first test runs have already been completed and can be seen on youtube.
Account name: modellmotoren
Video title: Erster Testlauf 4ccm Dieselstern
Now only the minor teething troubles need to be ironed out, so the small engine could be produced in small series in January or February.
Now we would like to know if there is any interest.
I won't be able to say anything about the price until later.
In the next few days I will start to build a suitable Piper J3P so that the engine can also be tested in the air.
Just hope the weather cooperates.
Best regards
Vincent-Jasper
