Your link mentions four ingredients of model diesel fuel:

Kerosene - 42%
Ether - 30%
Castor Oil - 24%
Amyl Nitrate - 3%


I noticed that Joe Wagner doesn't mention the 3% ignition improver in his article. Is that part optional? Can you get by without it?

Tom,

You can get along without it but it allows you to run with lower compression settings so most folks use it. I believe ALL commercial blends use one of the various ignition improvers.
