Default Anyone ever convert a glow ST G20/15 R/C to Diesel?

I have a couple of these engines and would like to run them as model Diesel engines. They were competition engines back when they came out (FAI 1/4 Midget Pylon). Mine was never exceptionally powerful, but it was super reliable. I know that Super Tigre sold related engines as Diesels, but I never heard of one using an R/C carburetor. Naturally, I'm thinking of calling Bob Davis and ordering one head at first, assuming that he has one in stock, but I was just curious if any of the modelers reading this column has ever ran this engine as a Diesel with a Davis conversion head.

Hi Ed:

The D engine has very small ports in the shaft and a very large con rod. I would not suggest that it would be a good idea to make the conversion. I think that you would be much better off if you would buy a G20/15D from E Bay for about $125.00 and be done with it.

The G 20D is a very nice sport engine but if you put a Davis head on a Fox .15BB you would have a good engine that you can get parts for if you need them. Try that with a ST!

Best of luck in whatever you decide.

I understand your point, Franchi. Thanks for the advice.

One of the go fast tricks for an ST G20-15 diesel is to run a glow piston and rod, with is lighter than the diesel piston and rod. I didn't know there was a difference in the crank porting because I never looked. Both my G20-15 glows are mounted on airplanes so I probably won't take them off for comparison. I think if you put the glow G20-15 on eBay, you'll get a good start on a Fox 15 and conversion head.

I have two MVVS 2.5 cc Diesel engines now, plus OS & Thunder Tiger glow engines with Davis Diesel conversion heads, so I`m not hurting for something to fly.

The Fox .15 conversion is very tempting.

hello,
because I'm interest to the opposite diesel to glow conversion of a G20 diesel version,
I could be interested to a parts exchange,
in this case, I have the piston/cilinder coupling still brand new, the counterpiston, the head with the screw, the venturi and the shaft as well.

the main problem for the conversion is the diagram, that is different.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm going to keep my engine glow and do something else. Thanks anyway.
