Not just a bench diesel runner

This is my first Classic A/FAI class control line model, and the first proper racer for about four years. It's a Dutch (?) Metkemayer 75-2 design from the Hippocket plan. I suspect that the 75-2 means that it was the second model of the design made in 1975. Shortly after this date the style of FAI racer changed to a flying wing. Some think that this style (separate wing and tail) was the most elegant ever.
The AAC Parra 15D has had a few runs on the bench so there's really no excuse not to fly it now. It's the latest 15 diesel iteration with the non leaking shaft bearings. Yesterday was blowing a minor gale, maybe this coming Saturday. |
What a nice, clean airplane.

The 1960 era Rivers Silver Arrow 3.5cc diesel is now squeezed into a 2.5cc sized slow combat model for a test fly. It's had about 2/3 of a litre of fuel through it now and usually starts up first flick. Turns the RAM 8x6 prop with authority. It was from the estate of the late Dave Owen, and it seems that it wasn't run.

Rivers Silver Arrow 3.5 c.c.
I have one in a Box. It looks un-run. A very early example, but with the extra roller bearing added. B 200 and something.
You posts are tempting me to fire it up. |
